After the meeting dissapointmen with Super 7 i jump back at the hype train of happynes and nostalgia thanks to NECA, since unlike the Thundercats that has come and go in the last years (or the Ninja Turtles that never really left), we didnt see the Gargoyles at all in the last 17 years and sometimes it felt like they didnt even existed since even Disney forgett them but that changed last year with NECA releasing an amazing and oustanding Ultimate Goliath as well as his evil clone Thailog, and now Bronx is finally arriving after being exclusive to Target for a few months.
Aside of the supe prety box with brand new artwork based on the 90s art style, Bronx is the smallest of the character on four legs, tough in two legs he is almost as tall as Goliath. He can stand on his own perfectly (evidently) and is much smaller thn other four legs NECA creatures, like the Rhino Alien of the Kesler Wolf .
Articulations...this is tough given his inhuman anatomy but he is articulated on the head, neck section, shoulders, elbows, half feet and toes and on his back legs he have the same movement sections as well as a ball joint on his tiny tail. All this articulations use ball joints soo they have a lot of room for movement on all directions except on the tail, since the movement is very minimum and the best articulation is the neck section since rotates an awfull lot and let him look up or down, much better than Goliath.
He is also articulated on the jaw soo he can open his mouth, tough the neck piece block it and only let him open his mouth a little bit but if you took his head out a little bit and let it hand from the tip of the ball joint, the jaw can be fully open to enjoy the magnifiscent sculpt and paint.
Because the sculpt is really brillant....his body dosnt have too much texture tough the muscle construction is impresive, he looks like a bodybuilding dog on super steroids. The muscles at the sides and back are just soo amazing and the spikes on his back and tail are pointy as needles. Also it seems he have an inner plastic structure since all the skin on his torax is made with soft plastic and this helps specially with the leg movement. Attention to details and clever use of different material is genius.
The ehad is an exact replica of the cartoon character design, with the little horns above his eyes that lakced the Kenner version and the pointy fangs on the lower jaw. Compared to Goliath, this guy´s face is much more "gargoyl-ish" since you can put his face on top of a building or a door and he would looks pretty natural in there, he even reminds me a lot the wall gargoyles from Medievil.
He is blue, very blue, electric and vibrant blue tough he dosnt looks plastic or toysih because theres a soft black shade surrounding every muscle and giving him even more volume and deep. The bottom side of his body, legs and head is grey and the color change is pretty natural and soft.
The face tough, aside of this blue, black and grey tones, have totally white eyes with some dark shadows around them that makes them looks like shiny pearls. Also the sculpt and paint of the inside of his mouth is amazing and each fangs is sculpted and painted in white over black tissue with his tongue being purple and having a texture with very realistic little bumps.
At first glance Bronx is extremelly simple, just a blue thingy in four legs but in a closer looks, the amount of detail and care in this character is really amazing.
For accesorys theres not too much here because, well, he dosnt use weapons at all. Soo they give him an extra head with a roaring expression. This head is kind of similar to his normal head with the moth open but the thongue is projecting to the outside of his mouth giving him a pretty fearsome look. The sculpt and paint are as beautifull as the other head and can be exchanged pretty easy.
Then there is a meat piece thingy that kind of looks like a log....but at the sides is pretty obvious this is meat, cooked meat from the first chapter of the series when the young gargoyles are eating close to the refgees on Wyvern Castle. Bronx can hoold it with his mouth pretty easy but theres not much to aside of that.
Then the last accesory and the most controversial: Goliath´s closed wings. This wings are a little smaller than the open wings tough they are made with very soft plastic, and yet the have the same scally sculpt of the open wings and the same great looking black-metalic paint, is good the material can keep this kind of details.
The wings have small post soo they can fit on Goliath´s back, tough thanks to the soft material the posts dosnt work too good but they cant fall anyway, since they are pretty much resting on Goliath´s shoulders. The effect is pretty nice and perfect, he looks fantastic and gives him a much more relaxed look, not to mention it helps a lot to keep the display space.
Many people say they add the wings soo people buy Bronx, a characetr no one wants, but i find this pretty sad and incorrect since Bronx its as important as Elisa or any other character of the cast, but is pretty odd they give him such a vital accesory for Goliath...there is something wrong on add important accesorys with small characters....
Yet, sicne i am planing to completr the collection i am not too worryed at the moment...but i wonder waths going to happen with Thailog closed wings and Demona´s...and Lexingtonf will surelly come with Hudson wings but wath about Brookly and Broadway??
I guess theres not much point on worry in such a things tough, specially when Bronx turned out soo damn good and he pretty much enhanced Goliath figure perfectly. Bronx is a perfect mix of demonic monstruosity mixed with cutnes and is great to have such a perfect 3D representation of him, is like seen an old friend after 28 years.
