BEHEMOTH

The Nightmare Before Christmas action figures series 5 by NECA offered a new and pretty good looking version of Jack as well as the Undersea Gal, one of the oddest characters from the movie and they give her really good accesory, but nothing compared to waths to come: Behemoth.

The Behemoth is one of the most iconic characters form the movie as well and one of the most well remembered to the point Hasbro did a figure of him back in 1992. This NECA version was highlly superior tough. This guy is as tall as the Wolfman or the Vampire and can stand on his own perfectly! He is articulated on the neck, shoulders, wrirts and legs. The legs articulation is totally usless but the shoulders move really good. Sometimes i tough i wish he had articulated elbows but that would ruin his look and also hes not a character that moves too much at all.

He looks really good, with his bloathed look on his skin, in soft blue and his eerie face expression of emptynes, probablly thanks to the axe on his head, he even have some hair on his chest. His overall have a jeans texture and a wash of dark blue on it. Also he is very light since he is completelly hollow.

Again he have very few accesorys like a nutcraker. This little toy is very well detaild in sculpt and paint and fits pretty good on one of Behemoth´s hands thanks to his craker mechanism. This is great since are too small to hold items, yet NECA find a way to fix it.

His other accesory is the Easter Bunny, a totally unique and independent figure! First NECA give us pretty tiny characters totally alone and now it release two big figures together! This is probablly the best accesory of the entire figure series. The Bunny can stand on his own and is as tall as Behemoth, with an articulated head, shoulders, legs and tail.

His sculpt is clean and sharp and his pink color looks like a candy. He have a basket with easter eggs attached to his stomach, and his arms can be posed holding it. This was the only way since the Bunny dosnt have hands to hold the basket at all, his arms looks like tentacles and the effect is quiet positive.

A really good looking and impostant Halloween Town citizen along a independent figure, this release was really fantastic and i must say, the Bunny dosnt fit too much on the display but he is much more fun and better looking than the silly Christmas elves.

UNDERSEA GAL

NECA´s The Nightmare Before Christmas action figures were in theyr prime with series 5 even if the latest series had some odd issues, like very tiny figures, a lack of accesoryes or re-releases, series 5 fixed all those issues pretty fast and started with another version of Jack Skellinton, this time was Pijama Jack with an sleeping Zero and his books. While the figure was enough unique and was good looking, it is the only version of Jack i dosnt own.

Instead i waited for the second figure of the series, the Undersea Gal. This character is obviouslly based on the Gillman from The Creature of the Black Lagoon but on Tim Burton version, this monster is as tall as a human character (smaller than Sally) and is only articulated on the neck, mouth and wrists. Thats rigth, this is the most static figure soo far but her arms are made of bendable plastic with a wire, soo they can be posed without showing any articulation. I wish NECA did this with other characters tough.

Also, she cant stand at all thanks to her fish tail, but this time around NECA didnt give her any kind of base.

The sculpt is really good, with her big bulb head, huge eyes and lips and each scale on her body. The paint is very simple but works really good with the different tones of dark green and her blue claws and yellow eyes, she looks really vibrant and brigth.

She have very few accesoryes, but one of them is huge. Firts she have a stool made with old wood. This stool is really good loking with a great texture but she really cant interact with it too much. The second accesory is a HUGE cauldron, the Witches cauldron actually, with a pretty dark metal style with big bolts, this item is pivotal for the Undersea Gal.

Her fish tail can be removed and her upper body can be placed inside the cauldron wich keeps her in balance thanks to a couple of spikes that hold her. This is really the only way to make her stand by her own and add the two Witches and you end with an awesome display from Making Christmas.

This creature was one of the best looking NECA did and it made quiet aparent that series 5 was going in the rigth direction.

MUMMY BOY & BAT KID

Series 4 of The Nightmare Before Christmas action figure series by NECA managed to release some fantastic characters with very high quality, like the Pumpkin King, the Devil and Igor, tough it had an issue with "small characters" like the final figures in the series, the Mummy Boy and Bat Kid.

This figures are tiny!!!! Just as small as Igor but much more light and lean, tough they come together wich helps to aid a little bit the feeling of paying too much for such small toys. The wuality is high tough, with the Bat Kid having a huge head with spiky hair and a very tiny body (reminds me a fetus) and huge wings, he have no paint except on his red eyes and teeth and the Mummy Boy shows some really good sculpt and paint on his bandaged body since he looks really old and dirty.

The Mummy Boy have articulated head, shoulders and legs tough the legs articulation is useless, since he cant stand with his small black base. Also i was hoping his little yellow eye could move but is not articulated at all. The Bat Kid have articulation on his neck, shoulders and wings and thats all, most of his body is totally statick. Of course, theres not too much to do on the pose department.

Like already say, the Mummy Boy comes with a small base and the Bat Kid have also a base tough is transluscent and have a rod that stick on his back. Of course he is supposed to be balancing on his wings soo is imposible to make him stand with this base.

They also comes with a rat and a toy train. I dont know wich one of this i like the most really, the rat is incrediblly detailed and expresive with his mean looking face, the party hat and the cheese with a ribon, he is even articulated on the neck!! But the toy train is also nicelly designed, with its german expresionism style and the vibrant colors, bot accesorys lookis fantastic in the display.

And thats it, fantastic quality, but only two accesorys and while this two comes together, they are still too small. Why not releasing them along side Igor? Or better yet, why not releasing them with the Cyclops and the Wolfman instead of the silly looking elves? That would make much more sense.

Despire NECA odd choice to release such small figures, it was a good thing they packed them with good accesorys this time and expensive or not, this pair are unique and important Halloween citizens.

IGOR

The Nightmare Before Christmas action figure series by NECA was trully stellar, but at the same time it had some weird issues poping up here and there, like the re-release of figures or recycling of accesorys, tough with series 4 it looked like things were heading a good direction, a new and unique issue appeared with thr this figure of the collecion, Igor.

This guy is extremelly cute really, and is the smallest of the figures soo far being much small than the Cyclops or the Devil and against all logic, he can stand on his own even with his wonky legs. He is articulated on the head, shoulders, biceps, elbows, wrists and waist (under his coat) and all this articulations works really good, somehow they are much more stronger than the ones on taller figures tough he dosnt have too many poses to chose from.

He is extremelly dirty looking, with a lor of grey washes on his lab coat, colorfull patches and a grey face with raw looking hairs and a big yellow eye, he is pretty ugly looking despit being soo cute.

He comes with a base that he dosnt need at all, as well as a box of treats with a very "Burtonesque" dog design on it as well as a biscuit shaped like a bone. Sadly, make him hold this items is really tricky given his tiny hands. He also comes with the reindeer plans printed on paper. This print is really awesome and helps a lot to the display.

And here is the problem, theres not a lot of accesoryes here and he is really really tiny yet he have the same price as the rest of the figures, it was pretty odd to see 80% of his blister totally empty. He is as small as the green Witch, but that character comes with her sister, soo Igor alone feel like "is not enough".

Maybe if they packed him with other figures, even if small ones, or maybe if he comes with a big diorama accesory or something, like bony reindeers or the laboratory forniture this figure would feel much better ad less disapointing.

I mean, he looks really fantastic along side the Dr. Finkelstein and is a fun Burton figure, but sometimes its hard not to see him as just an accesory of the Evil Scientist.

DEVIL

By the time NECA released the series 4 of The Nightmare Before Christmas action figures, we already had a pretty amazing collection of characters of the movie and a few issues NECA had to correct, but series 4 seemed like the rigth direction to take after a very spectacular Pumpkin King Jack.

The second figure was (yhea guess it.......) one of my favorite characters from the movie, the Devil himself. Tough this is a really small Devil, inly 1/3 of Jack´s height and susprisinglly, he can stand on his own and need no base. He is articulated on the head, shoulders, biceps, elbows, wrists and legs and his entire tail is bendable. The tail is really long and helps him to keep his balance.

This guy looks soo much like a claymation puppet, thanks to the texture on his dark cloack and his cartoony and stylish design, with the huge head a pointy angles, looks like one of those design that works wonderfull on 2D as well as in 3D. He only have two colors: black and red and while the black have sme grey tones, the red on hsi skin is really vibrant and intense. Even his big eyeballs have some soft washes of red to make them looks like they have fire inside.

One thing to points out is his mouth, i was pretty sure it could be opened but it dosnt have articulation at all.

He comes with his always present red pitchfork, the most basic pitchfork design i ever seen and gits perfectly on his hand. He also have a skull with a mistletoe. The skull is pretty evil looking despite the ornament and looks pretty striking on the Devil´s hand. And lastly, he has a two man saw. I am not very sure wath to think about this saw since is pretty raw looking and he cant even hold it not even with another character (his hands are too small) but i guess is better than not having more accesoryes.

Evidently, he have pretty delicate joints that can be broken easy, but soo far i still hasnt broke him soo i guess he is stronger than Jack. Aisde of this small detail, he is a pretty solid and perfect representation of a pretty awesome character.

PUMPKIN KING JACK

After an odd series 3, with very little accesoryes and a lot of recyling, it wasnt very clear if NECA would continue theyr The Nightmare Before Christmas action figure series, but with the arrival of series 4 it was clear they had still inspiration to continue. The very first figure from series 4 was Pumpkin King Jack, the very first character to appeare on the movie.

Of course i didnt doubt to get him, this is probablly the coolest and most awesome variation of Jack Skellington and works both as a figure and as part of the diorama. He is very tall like all Jack figures and is very well articulated on the neck, shoulders, biceps, elbows, wrists, waist, legs, knes and ankles. All articulation works good but it suffer the same fate as the other Jack figures: easy to break articulations.

The sculpt is really good, with the thorn shirt fliying around and his hands looking like branches, most of the figure is cast in plastic color soo the paint is keept as minimom (only on his straw under body and face, wich gives him a pretty clean look.

His accesoryes consist on the always usefull and discret black base as well as four different pumpkins. This pumpkins are recycled from Sally and the first Jack, but this time around is good to have more pumpkins to add to the display, also all four are totally different to each other and have theyr own personality. Jack cannot hold them of course, but this little guys can help to hide the base on his feet.

His other accesory is the Halloween Town sign, that have a trully good looking texture and paint that looks like ancient wood. The sign fits on a hile on his back and it can be moved up or down if theres not too much vertical space to place him.

And overall this is an extremelly good looking figure that works amazing displayed with the rest of the Halloween Town citizens or by hows own, all alone and surrounded by pumpkins. Despite the fact i had to glue his wrists, he is one of my favorites of the NECA collection.

WOLFMAN

With the series 3 of The Nightmare Before Christmas action figures, NECA was evidently struggling balancing quality and price and they had to re-release a couple of figures, Santa Jack and Sally, but also they score pretty nicelly with the other two figures, the Cyclops and the Wolfman.

This is the Tim Burton´s version of the Wolfman and is imposible not to love him!! I know i say the Cyclops was one of my favorites but the Wolman too!! This is the nightmare of all furrys, with his hunched body, small and weird looking claws and long snout, this figure beat the original Hasbro release with no difficult.

He is articulated on the legs, tail, waist, shoulders, elbows, wrists, neck and lower jaw. All articulations works really good and give him a big range of poses, something pretty odd given his character design, and his mouth can be opened to show all his fangs. The paint is dark and gritty with exception of his neon green eyes and even his torn apart shirt looks pretty old and used.

He cant stand on his own but comes with a small token black base to help him and his accesoryes...this is another deparment where NECA had to cut resourses since this Wolfman is almost bare bones. He only have a small gift present, the same the Cyclops have, but with different color and he almost cant hold it or interact with it.

His other accesory is a silly small elf with a music sheet. The elf is really well done, with a clay looking texture and vibrant colors opposite to the Wolfman, and articulations on his arms soo he can hold the sheet, but not only he dosnt fit the display or the Wolfman himself, but the is the same elf that comes with Santa Jack.

Aside of recycling figures, NECA was also recycling accesoryes, this was pretty shocking specially by looking at the series 1 figures and they fantastic accesoryes. And overal, despite the lack of items i find this Wolfman figure to be still one of my favorites.

CYCLOPS

After two very good series of The Nightmare Before Christmas action figures, it was pretty eivdent NECA was having troubles keeping the quality and good price at balance and Series 3 suffered this by re-releasing figures, Santa Jack and Sally. Jack was just released in last series and only had a winking eye and a set of new accesoryes ( a silly elf, a penguin and a possesed werath instead of the sack and shrunken head kid) and Sally also had a new face sculpt with a troubled expression and had all her accesoryes removed for a giant sewing machine. The machine was beautyfull for the display but wasnt enough to buy her again.

Things looked much better with the third figure of series 3: the Cyclops, one of my favorite characters and one of the cutest too. I actually have a lot of favorite characters from the movie, i am sorry, but i find the Cyclops really adorable and cute.

He is thin and short, smaller than the Mayor with no hat and his build is really something. His entire body seems to be made with wood and his arms and legs looks like branches. He is articulated on the legs, shoulders, elbows, neck, jaw and eye. Yes, his eye is articulated and he can look to any place you want as well as his jaw can be opened to show his lower fangs.

He would never stand on his own given his small hooves, soo he comes with a wooden create with a skull painted on it. The crate have a transluscent rood that can be attached to the Cyckops back and that way he can keep balance perfectly. Its really neat how they manage to make a specific base for him that looks like an accesory and blens with the display!!

His other accesoryes are a small red gift box and a hauted doll. The doll is your tipical Burton toy with rotten hair and a hauted expression, tough the Cyclops have troubles holding it given the odd shape of his arms.

He also comes with a christmas elf, a fat elf, with a music sheet. The elf have articulated arms soo you can place the sheet between his small fingers and he is almost as big as the Cyclops himself, with a perfecly accurate sculpt and paint tough i am not sure wath to think about this guy. I like then they add entire figures as an accesory, but this little guydosnt fit at all on the Halloween Town display...

Overall, i think this is one of the best looking figures NECA did about this movie and this guy is one of my favorites.

HARLEQUIN DEMON

At the begining of the TNBC fever - where everyone become a fan and the movie started to be mainstream -, NECA released The Nightmare Before Christmas action figure series as the very first figures that will place them as the main spootlight of the collector market. Series 2 had a Santa Jack, Dr. Finkelstein and the Witches and closed with the Harlequin Demon.

Is in this kind of minor characters where the series really shine. The Harlequin Demon is actually really small (something i never notice before), as tall as the Mayor and Doctor and he cant stand on his own but comes with the always usefull and discrete black base NECA always used.

He is articulated on the shoulders, wrists and legs and have a ball jointed mouth piece. While the legs articulations are useless, the articulation on his jaw gives him total freedom of movement, with the upper part of his head able to move up and down, rotate and tilt, this gives the impresion he is opening or closing his mouth.

Also, the tentacles on his head are bendable, soo they can curl around on any direction giving him a pretty gruesome look. The sculpt is really good, with his hairy spiked arms and yellow and orange scales on his body, along side all the black and green eyes, this guy seems to be colored on pure Halloween.

Aside of his base he comes with a table sculpted and painted like rotten wood, with scisorss and a ribon on it as well as a mallet that fits perfectly on one of his oddly shaped hands (only 3 fingers? how he can hold things?), he also have a dead rat, a vampire hat that fits on his head and between his tentacles and an orange gift box with spiders.

Despite being a pretty small creature, this guy is really fun thanks to all the accesoryes he have and his design is extremelly close to the spirit of Halloween, making him one of the best figures of series 2 along side Dr. Finkelstein
