GO NAGAI NO SEKAI

I usually dont like small figures, my big hands have a lot of troubles playing with them and the fact i need a magnifiying glass to look at the details fill me with anxiety but some are real fun and dosnt sacrifice the details for the scale. Most Gashapon looks kinda bad or plain but sometimes they go against that rule and the Go Nagai no Sekai serires is one of them.

Released 20 years ago by Furuta, this serires focused on a lot of artists to celebrate they work and the Go Nagai serires focused on his antire roster of characters. The box says they are 8 figures + many secret figures, since they came in blind box the procces of collecting them was really exciting, you could get a Cutey Honey or an Enma-kun or Mazinger soo getting the Devilman was quiet a challengue.

The very first figure that is on the actual cover of the box is Devilman on his anime look, green with red wings on a pretty heroic and stoic pose. This figures have no articulations soo he looks like a tiny statue and not only the sculpt is superb, but the paint is completelly flawless, the colors are strong and vibrant and perfectly applied, specially on his face and red eyes. I mean, he comes with a very simple base with the Devilman and Furuta logos, but even the floor texture on its is really masterfully painted and looks like stone.

The second figure is Miki Makimura, straigth directly from the manga pages, she looks perfectly faithfull to Go Nagai´s art style, from the cartoony face to the curvy body and provocative expression. I love her slippers and the carpet and wodden floor in the base, is evident she is on the Makimura´s house and the best part is Ghelmer hand coming out from the floor, just moments before graving her. The way the arm have bthe same color of the floor in the base and how that color changes dradually to a blue and greens is really beautifull.

The third figure is Akira Fudo, walking directly to the viewer, with one foot on the top of the base. Juts like Miki is is like a Go Nagai art on 3D, from his slim body tone to his face expression and eyes, tough unlike Miki, he is the most simplistic figure of the collection, just dressed in black. The base have a stone texture, with some wrird bones and rocks, is pretty difficult to find out were he is.

Then we got an Akira in middle transformation in Devilman. From the waist down is the same figure, but the waits up his black clothes are exploding and his face looks already more Devilman than Akira. Again, this figure is really simplistic but i love how good it works with the human Akira figure, put them together and you pretty much have him transforming while he walks.

The last figure is Devilman fully transformed and is the tallest of the collection since he have his wings spread and is levitatin on top of an spiral of smoke or clowds, with the help of a small metal rod. The image is really spectacular, despite the small scale and again, the sculpt follows Go Nagai art style perfectly.

This figures proof that scale dosnt matter, you can make something spectacular and good looking even in small size, i love how daithfull this is to Go Nagai´s original vision and how each figure trys to be a small diorama on its own and even conect with others like Akira´s transformation. It makes me wish i had collected the rest of the serires since each figure represent each character in a superv way.

MIKI MAKIMURA

The Dynamic Action Figures toyline from Marmit not only was the only toy line aside of Fewture to release many different character from Devilman, but it was the more faithfull to the character and match the style and time of Go Naga´s original work. And thanks to theyr release window (80s-90s??) they are extremelly difficult to find. And to my surprise, i was able to get this one a couple of months ago!!

Miki Makimura, one of the most important Go Nagai heroins and one of the 3 human characters Marmit release (Miki, Akira and Ryo....that sadly, i dont have) is actually not one of my favorite characters tough i wasnt able to net get her.

She is even smaller than Akira wich means Marmit is really good at scale (something modern companys should learn) and just like Akira, she have a very light weigth and can stand on her own despite her small feet. Again, she seem made by a very vynilish plastic.

Her sculpt is very clean and basic, her tiny mouth and big eyes are nicelly sculpted but the most detailed sculpt is on her boobs, its amazing how realistic looks the dress and how compress her huge boobs (i am glad they dont mess with her balance) and the paint is also pretty simple and clean: shoes, red dress, eyes and brown hair. There is missing some brown in the inside part of the hair but this is the only  issue i can find.

Just like toys from the 90s, she is only articulated on her neck, shoulders and legs, gladlly her arms and body language is sculpted to make him looks femenine (and Akira looks masculine) soo while she cant achive a lot of poses, her default pose have a cute personality.

Her only accesory is her little brother, Tare-chan. Yes, an extra figure, a pretty small and almost unimportant character that actually was the comic reliefe of the original manga, he is almost as iconic as his sister and is pretty nice from Marmit to add him since i think this is the only figure of this character.

Just like Miki, he is articulated only on the neck, shoulders and legs and his vibrant coloring clothes and anime face design scream 70s.

As much as i dont care about Miki, i am really glad i was able to get her specially 30 years after her release. Now i only wish i could get Ryo Asuka...

MIKI MAKIMURA

When the second series of Devilman action figures by Fewture Models arrived at the half of its release it already have humans and pretty important and impresive demons. It was obvious it was pretty different to the first series and yet it was still an important character that was missing: Akira´s girlfriend.

Miki Makimura designed by Yasushi Nirasawa was a mix of the old design and pretty new concepts, the keep her old small dress but retailored and her trademark hair, in escence she was much more recognizable than Akira and Ryo. This Miki actually looks more like Miki than Crybaby´s generic Miki.

She is the same size her boyfriend and felt like a big step backwards after Satan and Zennon. Miki is cast on skin color plastic, soo her skin looks pretty clean and neat and have a very natural transparency on it. That along side her delicate pink lips, big eyes and perfectly panted hair makes her an extremelly pretty figure.

Her big belt gives her a pretty strong 70s style, yet her boots are pretty heavy metal wich gives her a pretty odd looks hard to define.

She is not very articulated tough, just her head, shoulders and wrists, tough thanks to her sculpt she can achive a lot of very femenine and cute poses that gives her a lot of personality (much more than the boys).

She can stand on her own, tough she comes with a coin styled base with her name written on demonic language just like the rest of figures. She also comes with a blue back pack with spiked belts. The belts are made with pretty thin rubber, soo i already bruke one of them, but even soo the pack fits in her back pretty good.

Inside the back pack she have a tiny book, her diary, called “Devil Chronicles” with a pretty evil looking cover. The level of detail in this books is really amazing considering the small size it have.

And she is the first figures with no action feature, nothing at all, she is just pretty and thats all. She is very nicelly detailed (even have her white underwear sculpted and painted under the skirt) and her attitud is much better than the boys, but still i find her kinda boring.

She is not specially rare either soo i take my sweet time to get her back in the day.
