CLAIRE REDFIELD

I am feeling really nostalgic while writting about Palisades and Biohazard pre-RE 4 at this point since action figure collecting and Resident Evil had a totally different meaning back then and is hard to belive it was 23 years ago when Palisades was dominating the toy stores with some really fantastic looking action figure series that combined the charm of the 90s toys with modenr sculpt and accesorys.

Of course my main interest there was Resident Evil and with the succes of the first series, in 2002 Plisades released a series 2 in the same format: a human character, two small monsters packed together and two boss monsters individually released in a very standar scale and mixing characters and monster from all games to that point....tough half of series 1 was devoted to CODE: Veronica because back then, that game was the latest Resident Evil to be released by Capcom that wasnt a remake, soo series 2 repeated the CODE: Veronica theme (and i am thankfull since thats one of the finest Resident Evil games).

Soo Claire Redfield was the main human character of series 2 and she can stand on her own perfectly and is articulated on the neck, shulders, elbows, wrists, legs, knes and ankles as well as her ponny tail. All cut joints except the shoulders soo she can point her weapons with totaly fredom. The articulation on her elbows was pretty bad looking but that was the standar back then and it was that or make sem-statues like McFarlane did back hen.

All articulations worked good and she have, thankfully, a much better moving artculation system then the Zombie Soldier. Plisades also produced limited edition variants of many of theyr figures, they did one for Leon for the second half of Resident Evil 2 where he have bandages on his chest thanks to Ada, soo they did a variant for Claire as well and thats the one i got.

Battle damage Claire is, sadlly, missing her vest (my favorite part of her costume) but she have some bandage son her leg and blood stains and spray covering her legs, chest and abdomen and a fresh wound on her forehead. Is weird to have a bloody version of this character since she never show any blood on the actual game but it sure helps a lot to highligth the "survival" part in the survival horror

The sculpt is OK, with her body shape correct with long legs and mostly and athletic build and not a very big bossom, the texture on her jeans and wrinkles is really good and i also like a lot her hair. Her face have the look of all the videogame characters from back then: a pretty doll face. While her big eyes and small lips looks good, she lacks any kind of expression and thats a little odd.

She is cast on skin colored plastic soo theres no paint but the skin has no texture either, soo it looks way too clean and way too plastic, almost shining. Somehow, despite the cool blood version she is not as pretty as the Claire from Toy Biz but she is either not as perfect as livelly as the Moby Dick Toys one.

Aside of the blood theres not much color here on her top part, tough the blue jeans have a really good paint aplication with very natural blues and her brown hair also have some really nice tones and aplication, much better than the series one. The soft pink lips and vibrant blue eyes are really pretty.

She comes with the same base of the series one, the wall bricks oval with the logo of the game but she also comes with a pair of M-100P submachine guns that werre soo popular back then because she could point and shot them at two different directions. The M-100P are just black but theyr sculpt is really cool and easy to recognize.

Her other accesory is another iconic weapon: the Sniper Riffle MR7 she uses to defeat Nosferatu. Due to the articulations she can be possed pointing it out, but the riffle have a very nice sculpt and paint since the wood brown used on it have a really good texture.

She also comes with a Magnum, a silver Magnum classic from the series as well as an AK47 she found on the warehouse of the antartic base. The ammo clip of the AK47 can be removed.

Her main weapon tough is the Hndgun M93R that have a very unique look and delicate and intrincate sculpting with a brown handle and finally, she comes with a First Ais Spray that for some reason....have no color, is just a totally white can and that really dissapoint me because all other accesorys are perfectly painted. I dont know wath happened here.

Claire is looking good and very well articulated and loaded with toons of accesorys, perfect to pit her agains the Zombies, Cerberus and Nosferatu. She got some material issues and looked a little too much like a doll, but she probed Paliades Marketing was really upgrading this figures on every element they could.

CLAIRE REDFIELD & TYRANT 103

Moby Dick Toys was pretty strnage, they appeared sudenly one day and the next they just dissapeare without leaving any trace, at least in no japanese language. Owned by Go Nagai, they released many Capcom figures like Street Figther as well as some Mazinger stuff, but non had bigger impact than theyr BIOHAZARD 3 Real Shock Action Figures. Figures were gigantic, pretty game accurate and came in pairs until half way they decided to sell them individually and make collecting even more confusing.

I never saw Series 7 in big box presentation like the original plan was designed, but they were sold individually on blisters as Series 9 Claire Redfield and Series 10 Tyrant 103.And despite this two never appeare on Resident Evil 3, they do match each other since they actually meet in the second game finally!!

Claire is a head bigger than your modern action figures from NECA and Storm, the same size as Jill and can stand on her own for a change! Tough like always she comes with a base in the same shape as the other human characters. She is articulated on the neck, shoulders, biceps, wrists, boots and pony tail. All cut joints except the shoulders and neck that have ball joint and a big range of movement and her pony tail can be removed.

Like all the other characters she is aculpted preposed aiming her shotgun to her enemy in front soo theres not many more options for poses, tough unlike her previews version with leather jacket, this one is extremelly easy to recognize with her iconic outfit from Resident Evil 2.

She is really pretty, with the heart shaped face she have on the RE 2 opening and ending scene and with the same athletic buid as well. Her vest is really reminiscent to Chris uniform and even have the big knife on her chest, tough the knife cannot be removed looks really nice.

Paint works is good, with mustly black and the vest and short with enugh shadows to looks good but cartoony at the same time. My only problem is how pink looks everything since she is supposed to be dressed in red. The best part is deffinetly the "Made in Heaven" logo on her back woth the angel and the bullets. Her skin paint is....well, sking tone, not like orange or yellow from the guys, she have the same paint than the leather jacket version and looks really good.

Her hair have anough dark and brown shadows and her face looks clean and pretty enough to looks like a videogame character from the 90s, with big blue eyes, pink lips and a steel gaze on her eyes, i say this along side Jill on Regina outfit are the best human figurea Moby Dick Toys released.

Her base is the same as Jill and her other jacket version, tough this time is black with the text in electrick blue and the outer line in brigth pink. I love that color combination and make her looks really good!! She also have the long shotgun from the game. The sculpt is really good as well as the black and silver paint and even have some shells near the handle!! It fits on her hand perfectly.

She also have a modified pistol tough i am not sure were this weapon appeare in the game (or who use it) and looks weird for her to hold it since her sculpt os for a long weapon, soo i didnt take pics.

Her original companion was Tyrant 103, the final boss from the scenarion B of Resident Evil 2. This guy is as big as his Mr.X version or Nemesis, really big and heavy and is articulated on the shoulders, elbows, wrists, each finger, waist and knes. He have troubles standing on his own tough but not much given the lack of movement of his legs and while his knes and elbows are cut joints, his shoulders are ball jointed and move a lot.

Each one of his fingers or claws is also ball jointed soo they can rotate in any direction and angle and is the most important part to pose him since the rest of his body is much more static. The lack of shouler articulation makes him feel too much like an statue.

The sculot is good tough i find him somehow much more bland and uninteresting than his Mr.X version. His face have the same empty look tough his eyes are now very thin slith. The bulbous and tumors looking ground on his torso are weird as well as the big veins on his arms and legs tough i find his leg sculpt to be extremelly awekard... his legs are bending in a weird angle for some reason wich made him a little difficult to stand.

The paint is kinda bland too with a lots of greys and darks with only red on the veins and in the blood runing on the crevise of his chest and around his armored heart, my favorite part is his claws, all shiny whte with red on the edges that looks like blood. The red on his eyes dont stand out too much given how small are his eyes now.

Perhaps the most interesting part is his back, with an insectoid looks and an inhuman giant column with greys and darks, the paints really makes it looks like a mechanoid creature from H.R. Giger and even there is a milky loking paint on the section above his ass that makes it looks like a transparency, again pretty reminiscent to Giger.

Is not like Tyrant 103 is bad looking, again he is much much better than the ToyBiz one, is juts that he is kinda boring looking comapred to the other creature figures, he is deffinetly not my favorite while i think Claire looks exeptionally good and this time around is at the same level as the creature.

From this point out, the rest of the collection was never released on the open market and only appeared on secondary market: Series 11 Hunk with an unmasked head to see him for the first time, Serires 12 Ivy on a red color that didnt looked as good as the ToyBiz one, Series 13 Leon S. Kenned Leather Jacket version from his alternate look of the second game, Series 14 Licker that looked.....kinda odd, Series 15 Rebecca Chambers pretty much the only figures of this character to ever be produced and Series 16 Tyrant the final boss of the first game.

I never saw this figures in person and they were extremelly expensive 20 years ago, now they are even more rare and unreachable along the Nemesis Type 2 and of course, the Nemesis Type 3 to build was just a dream only a select few could see in the world and is sold at hundreds of dollars.

This BIOHAZARD 3 Real Shock Action Figures are the closest we can get to the original Capcom vision for Resident Evil but at the same time they didnt had the completition feel the ToyBiz line had since instead on completing a game cast they mixed characters and creatures from all game and in the end, given to the price, rarity and collectability, this figures were never as popular as the ToyBiz except for die hard and rich Resident Evil collectors.

CLAIRE REDFIELD (LEATHER JACKET VERSION)

Moby Dick Toy was a japanese figure company owned by Go Nagai in the end of the last century and theyr made theyr debut with the BIOHAZARD 3 Real Shock Action Figure, the very first japanese figures based on Resident Evil and under direct supervision by Capcom. The figures were huge and they came in pairs like ToyBiz used to do, they come in a huge box acked with an extra piece to build Nemesis Type-3 once the collection was complete.

I think most shops back then werent very happy with the packaging, because after Series 4 of Carlos and Nemesis, this figures started to be packed all alone, on a clamhell. Not only this means some figures were wold out faster than other, but this made them much more difficult to collect soo instead of collect 6 more Series, we had now 12 to hunt down!! Also they divided Nemsis Type-3 even more soo some figures were packed with very small bits, like a rib.

Soo i will review this figures in the order of release as planed at first, with Series 5 Claire Redfield Leather Jacket version and Nemsis Type-2. This is something else to note, with Jill released 3 times and Carlos once, at half of the serires Moby Dick Toys was runing out of characters, soo instead of release Nicholai or Mikhail, they instead choce to go backtrack and release Claire Redfield, even if she wasnt never in Resident Evil 3.

To make things weirder, she is using her alternat outfit found on the locker room in the police station. Why?? Thats one of the illions of questions Moby Dick Toys leave for us over the years.

Claire have the same small frame than Jill and she is the size a DVD case, really impresive back in the 2000s. She can stand on her own perfectly toigh is better to use the base included to be extra sure she dosnt fall, tough given her small frame is unlike she broke something even if she falls.

She is articulated on the head, shoulders, elbows, waist and boots cut, all of them cut joints that only move in one direction. This is troublesome in the elbows area since they are cut joints in angle, soo give her a good pose is really tricky. The head is ball jointed soo its the most movable part tough it most be moved with caution to not broke Claire´s hair on the back.

She is preposed shoting her weapon up front, soo all wrinkles on her outfit follow the flow of her arms pefectly, move the elbows and you will broke the oattern, not only of the wrinkles, but from the flames on her jacket as well. She is firing her weapon frm the hip, like a cowboy, something she does in game once she puts this outfit soo this is for display a very specific moment of the game. The attentoon to details from Moby Dick Toys is extremelly good.

The sculpt is good, while the pants are really simple, the jacket is a separate peice and helps a lot to five deep to the overall look. I do love the flames on her arms and are sculted as well. Her face is really really pretty, with a rounder shape than Jill and pretty close to her look in the FMV scenes of the opening and endings of the game.

The eyes are beautifull, as well as her soft pink lips that looks even wet. She dosnt have that odd orange skin Carlos have, instead the paint is cleaner and even add an extra texture to make it looks softer and even her finger nails are painted pink.

Her outfit is black clean, tough the details on her jacket are very nice, like the buttons and the zipper in silver, the fllames on the sleves and the "Let it Live" lofo on ehr back with a valkyrie, everything looks clean enough to looks like a 3D render from a videogame but with every details in touch.

Also she have a belt full of bullets and a holster for her weapon. The paint work on the bullets is amazing!!! I love the orange tips!!! And the fact this belts is separate and resting on her hips means it can be moved up a little, not much but is a good detail.

Her base is the same the Jill´s have, but this time painted in full silver, with no other painted detais. She have a magunm as main weapon, painted in silver with black. The paints is good and it fits on her hand perfectly while the other hands holds the weapon´s top to emulate the unique animation this outfit gives her in the game.

She also have an M-100 machine gun from Code Veronica. Why?? Again, i dont know but is a nice option to give her to hold.

The original plan have her packed with Nemesis Type-2, the shirtless Nemesis from the clock tower. It made no sence release him with Calire but in the end, Nemesis turned into "Series 6" and was packed alone and turned into one of the most expensive mechadise of Resident Evil sicne he is now 500$ or more and by now i lose all hope to ever own him.

CLAIRE REDFIELD & ZOMBIE COP

Along side the release of Resident Evil 2, ToyBiz released as well an action figures serires based on the game under the label "Videogame Super Stars". Following the same footsteps as the first Resident Evil series, figures came in pairs and had an action feature just like all kids toys from the 90s tougj, unlike those same toys, this ones were extremelly gory and dark and sometimes, way too detailed for kids as well.

The first figure on the serires was Leon S. Kennedy and a Licker and the second figure was, evidentlly, Claire Redfield and a Zombie Cop, the perfect pair for Leon. This time around both are the same size and they are not too big, they are smaller than your average Figma or SH.Figuarts (wich make the deatils really impresive) and this time around both can stand on theyr own perfectly.

Calire is articulated on the neck, shoulders, waist, legs, knes and ankles while the Zombie Cop is only articulated on the shoulders. All cut joints traditional from the 90s soo there wasnt too many options of movement in here (specially for the Zombie Cop) tough Claire have ball joints on her shoulders.

Claire is EXTREMELLY pretty, missing the cartoonysh anime look Jill had in the first serires, Claire have much more realistic face features that are really delicate, specially on her mouth. Her body is pre-sculpted into a pointing pose with one of her elbows bent and with her weigth on a single leg tough her pose is not as awkard and as Leon´s and looks much more natural and flows nicelly.

Since she is cast on red and skin color plastic theres not much paint here so she have a pretty clean look. The "Made in Heaven" design on her back is there tough moved a side thanks to the ugly lever on her back. Her face paint is as pretty as her face sculpt, with pretty soft pink on her lips and ain impresive and perfect aint on her eyes with eyelashes and blue pupils, looks fantastic given her tiny size. Also i almost fogot, her pony tail is aslo articulated to give her more dinamism in the display.

The Zombie Cop is not the one on the official artowkr tough, this is much more like an original design of ToyBiz (unlike the Maggot Zombie from the first Resident Evil). He is fat and have a donut on his hand for an really humorous and cartoonish result tough the broken jaw and missing fingers on his hands are quiet disturbing.

His stomach is wide open to give a full view to his rotten guts...very very gory for a kids toy and i loved it. His body is sculpted in a twisted walking pose, heading towards Claie with his neck broken, pretty classic view for a 80s-90s zombie.

The paint is not that pretty tough, with reds on the wrinkles of his clotehs that gives the impression of rust and his face being not that detailed and looking like a green mess. The green on the skin is not bad tough since looks weet, like he is completelly rotten.

He have noa ccesorys tough Claire have the magnum. Thats rigth! The best weapon of the game and unlike the guns of Chris, Jill and Leon, the Magnum stands out thanks to its silver painting  and black and fits into Claire hands perfectly. She also have the bowgun tough.....this bowgun is HUGE. The sculpt and paint arent that bad but the size is just gigantic, like Chris and Jill rocket launcher and flamethrower and Claire arm really cant hold it at all.

The bowgun have a giant arrow tied to the weapon with a black cord and with the push of the button on tom, the arrow is shot with a spring action. The cord is nice soo the arrow dont get lost but it gets on the way a lot....thos whole weapon looks like dosnt belongs to Claire but to a much bigger figure.

Claire action feature is the same of the other human characters: push the lever on her back and she moves up her arm and  turns her head to point her weapon to the Zombie Cop, but unlike Leon´s, this feature works much much better but only with the magnum of course.

The Zombie Cop have a brand new feature tough: push his guts and he is cut in half and he also lose his cap with his brain inside. The missing of the brain and cap is for Claire´s magnum effect i am sure and the cut in half reminds me a lot an scene of The Return of the Living Dead.

Overall i liked this two much more than Leon and the Licker, Claire is just way too pretty and while the Zombie Cop is not as nicelly detailed as she is, he is such a classic interpretation of a zombie cop form the 90s and fits really well with other toys but even more importan, this two looks really good and fun together.
