BROOKLYN

For one year and a half, the situation of Gargoyles has changed dramatically since not only the characters are now back an toy stores thanks to NECA, but the story line continues in comic format by Dynamit as well. I am not sure if this focus on Gargoyles will end good or bad, but for now is pretty exciting to be once more in contac with characters that i, personally, loved soo much as a kid.

Of course, my favorite character back then was Goliath but i had a strong thing for Brooklyn too: he was fun and adventurous without being anoying and had this muscly jock vibe going on as well as a super cool design that resembled way too much to a demon: red skin, big horns and animal snout as well as a pait of very elegant and diferent wings and a cool mane.

He was supposed to come out with Hudson last year but of course, it took NECA an extra five months to release him but the wait is over and it was worth it deffinetly! Brooklyn is a head smaller than Goliath and the same size as Demona and just like her, he have some issues standing since his tail is thin and slender and really struggle with the weigth of those wings. Of course his legs are much more stronger than Demona´s soo he is easyer to stand.

He is articulated on the head AND base of the neck as well, shoulders, biceps, double joints on the elbows, wrists, chest, waist, legs, knes, feet, half feeth, his tail and ball joint on the paur of wings. The articulations works good and have the same limitations the other Gargoyles have: his muscle chest limit his elbows movement and one of his leg articulation is stuck. This can be fixed with a little of hot water tough but i didnt do it because i have the feeling that would make stand him much more diffcult.

The articulation on his wings have the same ratched system the rest, is pretty difficult to move them until they make a strong click sound but i guess this is good soo they dont fall. Also i still dont try it, but i got the feeling removing his wings will be a real strugle since i had WAY TOO MANY difficultys inserting the pegs of the wings on his back.

The articulation on the base of the neck is a first in this line and i think they do it to deal with the hair problem: the long hair really limit his head movement thanks to the wings. Brooklyn literally cant tilt his head up or down or move it left or rigth since the long hair crash wth the wings. Sadlly the base of the neck articulation dosnt makes any difference.

Another extra articulation here is on his jaw, he can open and close it just like the original Kenner figure did. This jaw movement works really good and helps to give him a pretty expressive look.

The sculpt is fantastic. I love his face sculpt, unlike the original Kenner toy, his face features are perfectly translated to 3D without loosing anything, the horns, the snout, the livelly eyes. And inside the mouth you can see every single of his small teeth as well as the fangs in front!!

He is extremelly well toned with an impresive muscle structure as well as a nice texture: veins on his arms, little wrinkles on his feet. He is really muscly but he isnt bulky like Goliath, he is much more aerodyamic and lean and his build matches more Demona pettit size just like in the series. His wing span is HUGE....for some reason his wings are a little bit longer than the rest soo he is pretty impresive looking but also takes way too much shelf space.

I love the little hands on his wings (just like Demona) and all the wrinkles at the end and beging of his wings, since he dosnt have the long "fingers" all ther characters have on theyr wings, the membrane on Broklyn wings looks really stretched like a drum but still keep the natural looking leather texture.

Paint is really good as well, the red on his wings looks good but i like much more the back side, since the wings have a metalic purple that looks very different to the rest of the characters. The brownish red on his body is consisntent and have some dark washes to add some shadow to his impresive muscles and the blue loincloth with the big yellow buckle looks nicelly aged.

The hair is not pure white since it have also some soft silver strokes as well as blue to give it volume, but my favorite part is his mouth, since each tooth is painted as well as the gums even if they are 99% hidden by his lips.

His accesorys are two extra pair of hands, aside of the closed fist: open hands and hands to hold his accesorys and they can be swaped pretty easy. He also comes with an extra head with a fierce looking expression. The eyes are white and while at first sign the mouth looks the same as the open mouth in the basic head, the side of his lips is curvyer and his tongue is puffing out giving him an even much more savage look.

The head is not easy to swap tough...thanks to the wings, and put the wings with the head on is really difficult as well.

He also comes with his black shades tough the glass is actually dark blue. They are made with a very soft plastic and feels kinda delicate given the size and they just hang on top of his nose but they dont asjust too well with his eyes, but given the rigth angle they dont looks that bad tough i wish they also included his helmeth.

There is also the Grimorum Arcanorum pages he took from Demona, the spell used to steal Goliath´s free will. The pages are made with soft plastic and they looks really really beautifull, very aged with missign pieces and the sides curling, but the printing is surprisinglly clean on them but of course, they are on another language.

Unlike the shades and pages that comes from the Temptation chapter, the las accesory is realy out of character and never on screen: a silly rapier that looks like the poiny structure of a sky crapper. This was actually the weapon Kenner give him in his 1994 figure, since for some reason all action figures back then needed to had a weapon, even if it was as ridiculous as this one.

The design is very art deco and the sculpt is much more delicate than the Kenner one and instead of a yellow plastic, this one is painted in metalic grey with some dark washes. Yes its a cool weapon, but Brooklyn woyld never use something like this.

Aside of Goliath i find Brooklyn to be the best looking Gargoyle and i am glad NECA manage to give him all the wow factors he deserved, like the great sculpt and those impresive wings. Accesorys match the same quality tough he is not perfect: the hair keeping the wings and head static in place is awfull, NECA really had to add articulations to the hair or at least make it of soft plastic.

The weak tail dosnt help either but those are issues the other characters have as well. I am really hyped to get his drapped wings but Elisa will have to wait a bit longer since another brother of the rockery is close first.

RED PYRAMID THING & BUBBLE HEAD NURSE

The remake of Silent Hill 2 is slowlly closing, and the proof is all the anachronic merchadise we are starting to get. Its soo weird that Konami didnt care for any merchadise of Silent Hill for 15 years until the series was cancelled but i guess i cant complaing to get Silent Hill figures even after this ong. The very first company on the Silent Hill revival is Mezco, a company that i dont collect to much at all, i just have theyr very cool but incomplete Universal Monster,s line and they ONE Collective lonelly Frankesntein.

Now they surprised me with a Silent Hill Deluxe Boxed Set that inclides not one, but two figures together: Red Pyramid Thing and Bubble Head Nurse (wath a surprise) in they "5 Points" series. And thanks to my lack with Mezco i was expecting something bigger...much much bigger, since this figures are mre miniatures since they are much smaller than a Funko Pop and a little bit smaller than a Nendroid....

Despide the tiny size, Red Pyramid Thing have problems standing on his own but they give him a tiny black base. Its extremelly simple, but it works good. This series of figures are called "5 Points" because they have 5 points of articulation, like the old Kenner toys had in the 80s. Sadlly thats not true with Red Pyramid Thing since he can only move his shoulders and one leg, his head and other leg are completelly static.

Theres no ball joints here, just traditional cut articulation soo he can only move his arms up ad down since theres not much point on moving his leg since that would make him even less stable. Soo he is mostly a tiny and super small statue, not very fun to play with him tough the sculpt is relaly really fantastic. He is preposed like if he is walking soo he dosnt looks static and his costume is made of soft rubber plastic soo it dosnt block the articulations (that dosnt exists).

The fabric texture is really nicelly done and you can even see the zipper on his back as well but my favorite part is the brain/flesh tissue coming out on the back of his helmeth. The paint job is really good as well, with the grey and dirty look on his costume and the stains of wet blood here and there, everything looks really really natural. His skin is purple with some darker areas around the muscles to give him a pretty decaying look. My only complaing here is the head, it just looks chocolate brown. I wish they give it more color tones or metalic paint of texture, i dunno, the head looks way to simple compared to the rest of his body.

His accesory is an extra rigth arm that have a more bended elbow. Its not easy to exchange the arms tough and given they are hold in place only by a plastic articulation make me thing evetually the plastic materiall will get harder and maybe, a extra twist will cut the articulation in half.

He also have his greant knife and great spear, both fit in his hand perfectly and the texture and sculpt on them is really good, specially on the wpar head. They also have metalic paint and finish, grey and golden, and they even have stains of dry blood. This makes me wonder why theye didnt paint like this Red Pyramid Head´s helmeth.

The Bubble Head Nurse is a little bit smaller that Red Pyramid and she cant stand on her own at all, soo the black base is highly needed. Unlike Pyramif Thingy, she does have 5 points of articulation: the head, the shoulders and legs, that gives her a little bit more versatility of movement but not that much, soo she is also sculpted preposed in a pretty shambling walk.

The sculpt is really good, all details are in here: the fleshy flamps at the side of her head, the weird square on her mouth with red paints (seriuslly, wath is this?? 22 years later and this thing design is still soo weird and unexplained), her tigth uniform and gloves. And the paint is relaly dirty as well and natural, looks like she came out from a blood pool and the human purple /pink colors on her flesh is very corpse looking.

My only compaling here is the hips. I dont mind the evident cut on her skirt for the articulation on her legs, but the central piece of the skirt is much darker than the outside pieces. Again, is weird they detailed the paint soo perfectly at such small scale but they had this paint inconsistency in such an evident and big place.

Just like Pyramid Thingy she comes with an extra rigth arm with a bend elbow but despite her arm being much more smaller, exchange them is much more easy and less delicate. She also comes with her rust pipe with metalic golden paint. The pipe is pretty small and delicate but despite the Nurse small hand it stays on its place pretty good.

Lastly theres a diorama piece made of cardboard. The material is pretty high wuality as well as the print, since it dosnt looks pixelated and the color palette matches the figures perfectly.  Dirty green tiles with blood all over for the floor and a wall with....rags of fabric hanging from it (???) with a green doot on the center, one of the rooms of the basemnt of the Brookhaven Hospital.

Turn it around and you have second diorama option showing a titally different room with green and rusted walls. Its nice to have both options or even display Red Pyramid Thing in one room and the Bubble Head Nurse in another.

Honestly i am not very interested on minatures, i find them difficult to handle and not very spectacular, but miniature figures get much better when things goes epic in scale, like Migthy Max in the 90s with his big playsets of castles, cementerys, space ships or other fantastic places, or the McFarlane Monsters playsets with hidden traps of the opera house.

I really wish Mezco did a Playset instead of a diorama, a plastic sculpted room with remobavle pieces or hidden chambers and a second level, i dunno, that would have been much more fun and avoid the "character standing in front of a door" display.

Miniatures for videogames characters have a lot of potential, like a playset with an isometric view, like Silent Hill Book of Shadows or the old RPG´s. I really hope Mezco see that and release playsets instead AND something beyond this two....why Silent Hill have soo many characters and creatures but they keep doing this two and only this two???
