GO NAGAI NO SEKAI

I usually dont like small figures, my big hands have a lot of troubles playing with them and the fact i need a magnifiying glass to look at the details fill me with anxiety but some are real fun and dosnt sacrifice the details for the scale. Most Gashapon looks kinda bad or plain but sometimes they go against that rule and the Go Nagai no Sekai serires is one of them.

Released 20 years ago by Furuta, this serires focused on a lot of artists to celebrate they work and the Go Nagai serires focused on his antire roster of characters. The box says they are 8 figures + many secret figures, since they came in blind box the procces of collecting them was really exciting, you could get a Cutey Honey or an Enma-kun or Mazinger soo getting the Devilman was quiet a challengue.

The very first figure that is on the actual cover of the box is Devilman on his anime look, green with red wings on a pretty heroic and stoic pose. This figures have no articulations soo he looks like a tiny statue and not only the sculpt is superb, but the paint is completelly flawless, the colors are strong and vibrant and perfectly applied, specially on his face and red eyes. I mean, he comes with a very simple base with the Devilman and Furuta logos, but even the floor texture on its is really masterfully painted and looks like stone.

The second figure is Miki Makimura, straigth directly from the manga pages, she looks perfectly faithfull to Go Nagai´s art style, from the cartoony face to the curvy body and provocative expression. I love her slippers and the carpet and wodden floor in the base, is evident she is on the Makimura´s house and the best part is Ghelmer hand coming out from the floor, just moments before graving her. The way the arm have bthe same color of the floor in the base and how that color changes dradually to a blue and greens is really beautifull.

The third figure is Akira Fudo, walking directly to the viewer, with one foot on the top of the base. Juts like Miki is is like a Go Nagai art on 3D, from his slim body tone to his face expression and eyes, tough unlike Miki, he is the most simplistic figure of the collection, just dressed in black. The base have a stone texture, with some wrird bones and rocks, is pretty difficult to find out were he is.

Then we got an Akira in middle transformation in Devilman. From the waist down is the same figure, but the waits up his black clothes are exploding and his face looks already more Devilman than Akira. Again, this figure is really simplistic but i love how good it works with the human Akira figure, put them together and you pretty much have him transforming while he walks.

The last figure is Devilman fully transformed and is the tallest of the collection since he have his wings spread and is levitatin on top of an spiral of smoke or clowds, with the help of a small metal rod. The image is really spectacular, despite the small scale and again, the sculpt follows Go Nagai art style perfectly.

This figures proof that scale dosnt matter, you can make something spectacular and good looking even in small size, i love how daithfull this is to Go Nagai´s original vision and how each figure trys to be a small diorama on its own and even conect with others like Akira´s transformation. It makes me wish i had collected the rest of the serires since each figure represent each character in a superv way.

SIREN KUBRIK

Medicom Toy released in 1980 (yes, this figures are 40 years old!!!!) a Kubrik collection about Devilman, wich are some of the most fun and cute toys based on the character since they have all the charm and amusement toys from back then had.

They released 3 sets: one based on the OVAs and titled "Devilman The Original" and 2 based on the animation series called "Devilman The Nimation A" and "Devilman The Animation B". The Animation A had Devilman on his TV series version, blue with red wings, Miki Makimura and Zannin but sadly, i dont have it.

But i do own The Animation B, that includes Akira Fudo from the TV series, Diren and Kain. All have the same size except for Kain that is much more smaller to the already thiny scale and they can stand on theyr own, but like The Original set, they have a 3 panel base that conect with each other and a cardboard background with cartoony electric designs. Only for display porpuse tough.

Akira looks extremelly different to the other one, that was pure blackness, this is pure color with brown hair and yellow shirt and he even have an accesory, a little belt that is extremelly tricky to put on his hand. Tough he is the less impresive from the set.

Siren was the main interest for me on this set. Her wings are a little bit too small but they are OK given the lego style and i dont mind the censoring on her. Tough she is not the TV series version since she is white, she is the OVA version. Same for Kain since he never appeare on the TV series.

Kain is soo incrediblly cute and is the only one that have no articulation at all. Tough he head can be removed and can be fused with Siren, to make her final form. This is why this toys are soo much fun and soo charming, you can remove and mix theyr parts to make hybrids. Also this is pretty much the only figure of Kain ever released wich make this set the more valuable.

While i want the A set with Zannin and Devilman, i think this is much much better and a must for the display and i am very happy to own this one and The Original too. And with this i end my Devilman figure reviews!!! I write a lot about this characters already and i need a rest and probablly, my ghost readers too. That dosnt mean i ran out of Devilman figures, i have many more, but i will keep them for later.

DEVILMAN KUBRIK

While the Michael Lau Devilman is deffinetly cute i think nothing can compare to the cutenes of the Kubrik by Medicom. Medicom Toy is one of the oldest and more classic toy brands from Japan (and one of the most overpriced) and are one of the first to work with Devilman too. They made 12" doll figures of the characters that are extremelly difficult to find by now but they also make Kubriks.

The Kubriks are small figures based on the style of lego and they did Kubriks of A LOT of brands, like the Blair Witch, Evangelion, Disney, Star Wars....they used to be like the modern POP by Funko. And i can say with all safety that this set of Kurbik are the oldest Devilman items i own, since the box says "1980".

The window plastic is already yellow, but i manage to keep the box and the figures in really good state after ...40 YEARS!!!!! OMFG!!!!

The first set of Kubrik about Devilman is called "Devilman The Original" and is based on the OVAs. The box have Akira Fudo, Ryu Asuka and Devilman. This guys are really small and they can stand on theyr own perfectly, tough they comes with a 3 panel base that conects with each other and a cardboard scenario with a weird yellow, purple and red camo design. All for display of course.

The paint is minimum - only the face and chest in Devilman and Ryo example - and the sculpt is also minimum and only consist on the hair, wings and claws of Devilman. Yet the paint job is really clean and perfect and matches perfectly the faces of the OVAs.

Ryo Asuka comes with a coat of paper??? I dont know waths the material of his coat but looks like paper with fabric texture and he also have his tiny shotgun. Akira is 90% blackness and is the most simplistic looking tough he have a second face on the back of his head. Turn around the head and the hair and you got an Akira with a very cute and surprised face.

Devilman is of course the best of them, with his big wings and menacing face tough he is the same size as the other two. All figures are articulated on the neck, shoulders, wrists and legs and they are a lot of dun to play with, even wth the limited articulation and body structure, since you can literally dismeber them and mix theyr parts.

I remember this were among the Devilman toys i wanted the most years ago and they are much more cute and fun than the modern Pop Funko but sadly, its been a long time since i saw a Krubrik....

AKIRA FUDO

I admit i love the Fewture Models toy line of Devilman and i am not the only one who does it because is the most popular line thanks to its awe inspiring design, high quality and amount of characters. But theres a lot of Devilman toy lines aside of Fewture and the most special and amazing one of the one made by Marmit.

I dont know much about Marmit, i think it was focused on soft vynil toys and kaiju figures back in the 70s-90s and theres not a whole lot of information about the company. I am not even sure if it still exists but theyr Devilman figures made a big impression on me for sure. They line is called "Dynamic Action Figures" and they are the oppossite to Fewture: While Fewture line used dark and grotesque designs, Marmit used the character design from Go Nagai´s manga, soo this figures are the most faithfull representation of the characters.

I dont know how old this figures are but they look and felt ancient, wich deffinetly suits the Devilman pretty good. My guess is they come from the 80s-90s since the card in theyr blisters dosnt have any date and they are actually very difficult to find by now.

The first figure on the series is the protagonist of course!! Akira Fudo. He is small, the same size action figures had back in the begining of the 90s, a little bit smaller than a Figma/S.H.Figuarts and thanks good, he can stand on his own. The plastic he is made of dosnt seem too high quality, it felt like old vynil maybe? and his articulations are the basics from back then: head, shoulders and legs and nothing more and legs articulation is useless since he cant stand if his legs are moved.

This guy is not bad quality at all, he is just a product of his time and both the sculpt and color are pretty good. The shape of his hair, his face expression, his body build, everything is an exact copy of Go Nagai´s manga drawwings wich is pretty amazing considering how difficult is to sculpt such cartoony style.

The paint is very limited of course, only his head and amrs and shoes and thats it, but the color have cealn applications and its simplisity helps give him a 70s cartoon look. He is not missing details tough, the pockets on his pants are sculpted and the border of his shirt and other tiny details.

He have only one single accesory: an exact replica of the demon mask as drawn by Nagai on the manga. The sculpt is sharp and clean tough the mask is made of white plastic instead of ransluscent and the mouth is covered, also it fits pretty tigth on Akira,s head soo i dont want to play too much with it.

Overall this is extremelly diffierent to the Akira of Fewture Models, he is smaller and much more simplistic yet  much more faithfull to the character and have a pretty special charm that fits perfectly to the 70s manga. Like the Kenner Ghostbusters or the old Star Wars toys.

AKIRA FUDO

Series one of the Fewture Model Devilman action figures series was finished and build up a cool collection of monsters with pretty similar features and sizes and some of the most important characters of the manga. Series two tough wanted something different: a series of minor characters with a lot of differences in body types and species as well as the addition of “action features” (pretty normal back then) and a big upgrade in both sculpture and articulations.

The opening piece for this so called DEVILMAN - MORE THAN DEMON series was the protagonist on his human form, Akira Fudo. Is actually weird Akira wasnt added to series one tough since he is one of the most important characters.

Yasushi Nirasawa´s design over Akira rejected all 70s flaor and style and gives him a pretty modern japanese punk style: big boots, tigth leather pants, chains, tattos and shirtles, this Akira looks way too much like a japanese punk boy from the late 90s.

For me is hard to identify Akira with this style, tough i guess it makes sence for the 2000s and he keep some of his trademark design details, like the scars on his pecs or the fangs. I am not sure i like the glam black lipstick tough, but the fangs, piercing eyes and black hair makes him looks a lot like a werewolf boy.

This time around, his torso is cast on a skin tone plastic with a pretty soft transparency. This gives to his skin a pretty realistic and clean look and along with his chains made with real metal, gives him a pretty luxury and high quality look back then.

The muscles are nicelly sculpted and i have to admit, while i dont like men this skinny, he is pretty sexy looking with the softly painted nipples, chains and tattos, and his open pants makes him very erotic looking.

He is articulated on the head, shoulders and wrists, soo theres not a lot of options to play with poses in here. He is very static, tough he can stand on his own perfectly but comes with a pretty cool looking base. This series two base have the shape of a coin, with a very nice and gothic design and Akia´s name written in demonic language.

Given hos small he is (half the size of the other characters), he comes with accesorys, aside of his base he also have the demon skull mask cast in transluscent plastic. The mask thingy fist perfectly on his head and dosnt straigh too far from Go Nagai´s design.

His other accesory is part of his “action feature”: an extra head. Now day figures comes with lots of heads, extra faces and hands. Back then, a figure with an extra head was something pretty rare and a novelty.

This head´s only difference is on his hair, taking the shape of wings. We could say this is Akira just about to turn into Devilman and gives him an extra pitn by displaying him along side his full transformed Devilman form (looks good with both normal and Winged versions).

Overall, this Akira is very good if a little too hard to link to Go Nagai´s character thanks to his modern design, but to be honest i find him one of the most boring figures of the collection. I am actually glad he was the first in series two since i saw A LOT of this guy in stores over the years and i even took my sweet time to get him.
