DEVILMAN

The Dynamic Action Figure series by Marmit was released back in the 80s-90s (??) and consisted n the full cast of Devilman perfectly traslated into 3D form by that time period standars. They are not easy to find now but my first figure of the series wasnt Akira or Miki, but the titular demon, Devilman and i remember how much of a fuzz i did back then when i get this guy.

He is probablly made with vynil and have the basic articulations from back then: neck, shoulder and legs, and can stand on his own perfectly and is much bigger than Akira and Miki, bigger than a Figma/S.H.Figuarts but still not a giant, just the rigth size Go Nagai gives him originally, wich talks alot about how concern was Marmit about scale on this line.

The sculpt is good, with the furry legs and the big bulging muscles, this Devilman is extremelly sexy and tempting since even his back have a perfect muscular anatomy. His head have a very serious expression tough...very human wich is weird given how inhuman Go Nagai alwasy drew him, instead this Devilman is specially pacific looking.

The paint is good, with a redish/orange tanned skin and grey dark legs and the details on his face are also pretty good and well defined, the red strips under his eyes, his green pupils and cute looking little fangs. Asadlly, the head was cast on black plastic, soo the skin painting looks darker than the body tone. And after 20 years, the color has been degrading and is getting darker and darker.

This difference between the head color and body is extremelly anoying but aside of that, overall, this guy is really plain. Probablly the most plan Devilman figure i ever seen and the only character from Marmit that dosnt looks drawn by Go Nagai. This is by far my least favorite character despite the yummy looking body but gladlly, all other character looks much much better.

MIKI MAKIMURA

The Dynamic Action Figures toyline from Marmit not only was the only toy line aside of Fewture to release many different character from Devilman, but it was the more faithfull to the character and match the style and time of Go Naga´s original work. And thanks to theyr release window (80s-90s??) they are extremelly difficult to find. And to my surprise, i was able to get this one a couple of months ago!!

Miki Makimura, one of the most important Go Nagai heroins and one of the 3 human characters Marmit release (Miki, Akira and Ryo....that sadly, i dont have) is actually not one of my favorite characters tough i wasnt able to net get her.

She is even smaller than Akira wich means Marmit is really good at scale (something modern companys should learn) and just like Akira, she have a very light weigth and can stand on her own despite her small feet. Again, she seem made by a very vynilish plastic.

Her sculpt is very clean and basic, her tiny mouth and big eyes are nicelly sculpted but the most detailed sculpt is on her boobs, its amazing how realistic looks the dress and how compress her huge boobs (i am glad they dont mess with her balance) and the paint is also pretty simple and clean: shoes, red dress, eyes and brown hair. There is missing some brown in the inside part of the hair but this is the only  issue i can find.

Just like toys from the 90s, she is only articulated on her neck, shoulders and legs, gladlly her arms and body language is sculpted to make him looks femenine (and Akira looks masculine) soo while she cant achive a lot of poses, her default pose have a cute personality.

Her only accesory is her little brother, Tare-chan. Yes, an extra figure, a pretty small and almost unimportant character that actually was the comic reliefe of the original manga, he is almost as iconic as his sister and is pretty nice from Marmit to add him since i think this is the only figure of this character.

Just like Miki, he is articulated only on the neck, shoulders and legs and his vibrant coloring clothes and anime face design scream 70s.

As much as i dont care about Miki, i am really glad i was able to get her specially 30 years after her release. Now i only wish i could get Ryo Asuka...

AKIRA FUDO

I admit i love the Fewture Models toy line of Devilman and i am not the only one who does it because is the most popular line thanks to its awe inspiring design, high quality and amount of characters. But theres a lot of Devilman toy lines aside of Fewture and the most special and amazing one of the one made by Marmit.

I dont know much about Marmit, i think it was focused on soft vynil toys and kaiju figures back in the 70s-90s and theres not a whole lot of information about the company. I am not even sure if it still exists but theyr Devilman figures made a big impression on me for sure. They line is called "Dynamic Action Figures" and they are the oppossite to Fewture: While Fewture line used dark and grotesque designs, Marmit used the character design from Go Nagai´s manga, soo this figures are the most faithfull representation of the characters.

I dont know how old this figures are but they look and felt ancient, wich deffinetly suits the Devilman pretty good. My guess is they come from the 80s-90s since the card in theyr blisters dosnt have any date and they are actually very difficult to find by now.

The first figure on the series is the protagonist of course!! Akira Fudo. He is small, the same size action figures had back in the begining of the 90s, a little bit smaller than a Figma/S.H.Figuarts and thanks good, he can stand on his own. The plastic he is made of dosnt seem too high quality, it felt like old vynil maybe? and his articulations are the basics from back then: head, shoulders and legs and nothing more and legs articulation is useless since he cant stand if his legs are moved.

This guy is not bad quality at all, he is just a product of his time and both the sculpt and color are pretty good. The shape of his hair, his face expression, his body build, everything is an exact copy of Go Nagai´s manga drawwings wich is pretty amazing considering how difficult is to sculpt such cartoony style.

The paint is very limited of course, only his head and amrs and shoes and thats it, but the color have cealn applications and its simplisity helps give him a 70s cartoon look. He is not missing details tough, the pockets on his pants are sculpted and the border of his shirt and other tiny details.

He have only one single accesory: an exact replica of the demon mask as drawn by Nagai on the manga. The sculpt is sharp and clean tough the mask is made of white plastic instead of ransluscent and the mouth is covered, also it fits pretty tigth on Akira,s head soo i dont want to play too much with it.

Overall this is extremelly diffierent to the Akira of Fewture Models, he is smaller and much more simplistic yet  much more faithfull to the character and have a pretty special charm that fits perfectly to the 70s manga. Like the Kenner Ghostbusters or the old Star Wars toys.

ICE DEMON

The Amon, Apocalypse of Devilman action figures by Fewture Models was pretty small but made a trully handsome display once all together, tough they looks kinda gay all holding hands, the figures complement each other wonderfully in both silhouette and color palette.

But while the series one had a glow in the dark skeleton Amon as a gift for those who collect it and series two had Demon Lord Dante, the Amn series had something much more special.

Join the icy bases of the figures and you get a kind of decorative memento of a fosil Devilman under the ice.

The bones of the sleeping Devilman are soo perfectly painted that looks natural and fused with the black rock bed beneath him. The transluscent plastic that encapsul them have some withe brushes and washed areas that makes it looks like an imprefect crystal. Is even cracking in many parts, yet the view of the inside is perfect.

I really wish the amazing looks of this awe inspiring piece could be catched in photo, but is pretty difficult to do it. And while i like the idea of get extra figures for collecting a series, this item was a much more special surprise for the fans it almost makes me wish to buy the figures again just to display theyr bases together.

AMON

Just before the start of the series two of Devilman action figures, Fewture Models released an extra series deddicated to the OVA Amon, Apocalypse of Devilman. This series was really small tough it share the high quality of the other two series. Devilman and Saylos based on theyr OVA looks were pretty solid figures tough the third character would surpass them pretty easy.

This is the third Amon designed by Yasushi Nirasawa and, just like with Devilman, he is extremelly different to the other two and in my opinion, the best of them all. While the first Amon was almost “nosferatu-esque” and Zenotic Amon looked like a dragon, this Amon is much more beastly and brutal.

Like Clive Barker would say: “its an amalgamation of demonic excess and erotism”. Probablly the manlyest of all the figures, with crimson skin, a mean look, bearded, very hairy, with huge bulguing pecs, the back of a bull, giant muscles on his arms and legs, a tiny waist and even a bulgue, this Amon is the weet dream of any fan of bara. Is easy to understand Siren behaviour on Crybaby after being in presence of this Amon.

The wings of his head are HUGE, with the texture of old leather and full of holes, the sculpt on his head is extremelly crisp and defined, with perfectly visible lips and individual fangs sculpted as well as a stylish beard, the level of sculpt in this guy is crazy amazing.

The chiseled muscles are detailed with the same quality, with veins all over them and an impresive anatomy and scales between his pecs, the hair on his legs is as sharply sculpted as his skin. I must say even his back is EXTREMELLY impresive, with raw muscles that are about to explode and an ocean of hair that flows perfectly, the artistry on this guy is amazing.

While the hair is mostly black with only a few brosn on his head, the red on his skin is darker enough to make him looks natural, but with certain light it kinda shines with a soft metalic looks. The red on his face matches the red on his body perfectly and the only other colors on him are his silver fangs and yellow eyes.

He is articulated on the head, shoulders, elbows, wrists, abs, legs and knees soo he is not as crazy movable as the other two, yet each one of his articulations are free to move and have an amazing range of movement, nothing restrict them, not even the hair on his shulders since its sculpted on deparate pieces that “levitates” over his shoulders and move a little bit along them.

Also, his feet are huge and thanks to the lack of articulation on his ankles, he can stand perfectly even on a runing pose!! I think this is the figure on the entire 3 lines that can stand perfectly without the use of a base!! And this is not small feat given how tall he is and how incrediblly heavy feels.

This figure is sure extremelly heavy, much more than Jinmen or the rest wich only makes him sexyer.

Even soo, he have the big chunk of ice that works as a base, to match the other two tough he dosnt need it at all.

Amon beats easy Devilman thanks to his good looks and can beat Saylos as well since all his articulations are much better, soo this is by far the best figure of the Amon, Apocalyse of Devilman.

Not only that, but he is the rarest of the series and i was extremelly impresed with him when i first got it since it felt like a trully special figure, something unique, and now i am still impresed with how damn looks he looks on almost any pose.

While series one had Winged Devilman and Jinmen as the most brillant pieces and series two had Zennon and Mico and Welvath, the Amon series had this piece as the best of the best representative. Even if you dont know who this creature is of who exactly is Devilman, this monster extremelly good looks suits perfectly to any collection of horror stuff and even looks menacing alone on any shelf.

SAYLOS

With the release of the OVA Amon, Apocalypse of Devilman, Fewture Models released a small series of action figure almost at the same time as the second series. One of the characters selected for this series was the original character created by Yasushi Nirasawa for the OVA: Saylos.

Saylos is actually one of the most beautyfull designs for a demon, a vypering creature that looks like a snake made of ice, he is both very evil looking and elegant.

Saylos is cast on a white plastic that gives him some transparency texture that makes him looks like ice, he is aerodynamic and the scales of his body are sculpted in a pretty simplistic and clean way.

The colors are soft light blues, darker blues and purples, are mixed together along his body in a way it makes him looks like the chromatic colors of a fish, with the only different colors coming on the spikes on his arms, his black claws and the red cross on his chest. This red cross is actually a scar inflicted by Amon centuryes ago, something the OVA didnt mention.

His face is the most interesting part of the figure, with black lips, long fangs and a pretty sharop sculpt on his noce and eyes, he have big holes on his checks soo you can see his fangs peeking from them, holes on hsi forehead and long tentacles in a “Predator” way, this is one of the coolest demons ever seen on action figures.

He is articulated on the neck, shoulders, arms, elbows, wrists, abs, legs, knees and ankles, but sadlly he is extremelly hard to play with, given to the spikes on his arms and the tentacles on his head, is very difficult to move around his arms or his head and thanks to his static tail and the weak articulations on his ankles, is pretty difficult to make him stand.

He comes with the big chunck of ice base that looks terrific and makes him looks taller than he is, but even with this, he is pretty difficult to balance and keeps falling around.

Its weird how cool looking is this character, yet he is not one of my favorites… maybe due to the difficult to handle him, but i find him more frustrating than fun. Then again, he is the only “new demon” from the OVA series soo is difficult to find a justification to nut boy him.

DEVILMAN

Back in 2000 they released the OVA Amon, Apocalypse of Devilman using Yasushi Nirasawa design as base. Not only this OVA was awesome (and very different to the manga) but it was also packed with its own action figures series from Fewture Models. Devilman was soo big and amazing back then!!

For wath i read tough, it seems Nirasawa made the figures before the OVA even started, and it was thanks to this figures that the studio green lighted the OVA.

This small series lands between series one and two of the Fewture Models figures and it shares the same quality and scale than those figures. The first figures of the series and the first i got was of course Devilman himself.

This was the third Devilman Fewture produced yet its amazing how different he looks to the other two: he dosnt looks as human as the first one but not as grotesque and devilish as the Winged Devilman version either, also his blue color makes him totally unique as well.

His face is the most stylish and cartoony of the Devilmen, with huge wings on his head and his smile with black lips and shapr fangs that make him looks like a vampire. His body is very muscly but very lean as well and his hands looks insectoid.

His legs are no furry, but they looks like…exoeskeleton? I never understand this design legs at all, but they are a perfect replica of the OVA design, with all the spikes and black leatherish looks. The wings, sadly, are pretty small in my opinion but i guess they do it in order to make him different to Winged Devilman.

The paint is good, with jet black for his insectoid hands and legs and soft blues with purples higlighting his muscle structure. This make him one of the most elegant looking Devilman. Sadlly, since the wings on his head are soo big, the whole head is cast on black plastic with the blue painting added later, this means his face is much more darker looking than the rest of his body making him looks weird.

Articulations are good, actually this is the best articulated Devilman Fewture did, with articulated head, abs, shoulders, elbows, wrists, wings, legs, knees and ankles, he can achive A LOT of poses and hes easy to play with. And with the help of his spear like tail he can be balanced pretty easy and can stand on his own.

Even soo, he comes with a base, his only accesory. This base is totally different to the black rock of series one and the coin with name of series two and instead is a big and heavy chunk of ice with rocks and bones inside the transluscent plastic.

Having another version of Devilman may sound kinda pointless but is hard to complaign when he is soo different looking and yet soo close to the animation on screen. Winged Devilman may be my favorite, but is hard not to love a Devilman as tall and well articulated as this one.

DANTE

One of the strangest but coolest elements of the Fewture Models Devilman action figures series is how each figure had the piece of an extra figure. Collect them all and you have a totally new and free figure, something unthinkable for modern figure companies!! Free toys for the customers!!!

The series one had a glow in the dark skeleton Amon, but sadly i didnt get all the pieces to build him since i buy some of the figures out of theyr packages. Series two, however, i was able to get them all in mint condition on theyr blister, soo i was able to build the secret extra figure.

At first the black pieces of plastic were pretty strange and confusing, but once the last of the figures were released, it was pretty clear who this secret figure was: Dante, the main character of Mao Dante and one of the villians of Devilman Lady.

Dante is a little bit taller than the rest of the figures, just like Zan, soo he is pretty awesome for a free figure and really heavy as well. Nirasawa´s design makes him looks very reptilian and much more realistic than Go Nagai´s design, with a very compact shapre and much more shorter wings and more menacing claws.

The monster have no nose, just like Dante in the manga, and have a skull on his forehead, tough for some reason he have Utsugi Ryo´s face on his back, only showing his forehead and eyes. This detail makes him quiet gross along side his long nine tails made with soft plastic.

The sculpt is sharp, with each one of the monster scales perfectly shaped and following a realistic anatomy as much as it can with a mosnter like this. Sadlly, he is not painted, soo he is jet black, except for his head. The skull and his fangs are silver colored and his eyes are red. I guess Fewture Model tough he would look too cheap all black and added this details to make his expresion stand out.

The looks is pretty earie, and looks like a shadow with glowing eyes and a smile, but i would prefer a colored version much better.

Fewture released a colored version actually, on his own blister, with very vibrant greens, blues and purples all around him, but this figure was very limited and super expensive to compensate for us, who get the full colection to build him.

His head is articulated, as well as his shoulders and wrists tough that dosnt gives him too much option for poses. His tails are made with bendable plastic and he can stand perfectly with those big feet, but since the pieces are put together with no glue, he can fall apart pretty easy.

Theres one extrage detail full of mistery for me tough: his chest can be open and you can see a litle bit of Utsugi Ryo´s face inside the joint on his back, but inside his torso he have a little mummyfied entity with horns and wings. This thing is silver color and i am really not sure wath it is… i dont remember Dante to be related to something like this in Mao Dante or Devilman Lady…

Even soo, with the lack of articulations and shadowy looks is hard to recomend a toy like this but as a little gift from Fewture, this is one kick ass detail and a great deal for the price of the rest of the figures. I wish modern toy companies would do this.
