MIKI MAKIMURA

When the second series of Devilman action figures by Fewture Models arrived at the half of its release it already have humans and pretty important and impresive demons. It was obvious it was pretty different to the first series and yet it was still an important character that was missing: Akira´s girlfriend.

Miki Makimura designed by Yasushi Nirasawa was a mix of the old design and pretty new concepts, the keep her old small dress but retailored and her trademark hair, in escence she was much more recognizable than Akira and Ryo. This Miki actually looks more like Miki than Crybaby´s generic Miki.

She is the same size her boyfriend and felt like a big step backwards after Satan and Zennon. Miki is cast on skin color plastic, soo her skin looks pretty clean and neat and have a very natural transparency on it. That along side her delicate pink lips, big eyes and perfectly panted hair makes her an extremelly pretty figure.

Her big belt gives her a pretty strong 70s style, yet her boots are pretty heavy metal wich gives her a pretty odd looks hard to define.

She is not very articulated tough, just her head, shoulders and wrists, tough thanks to her sculpt she can achive a lot of very femenine and cute poses that gives her a lot of personality (much more than the boys).

She can stand on her own, tough she comes with a coin styled base with her name written on demonic language just like the rest of figures. She also comes with a blue back pack with spiked belts. The belts are made with pretty thin rubber, soo i already bruke one of them, but even soo the pack fits in her back pretty good.

Inside the back pack she have a tiny book, her diary, called “Devil Chronicles” with a pretty evil looking cover. The level of detail in this books is really amazing considering the small size it have.

And she is the first figures with no action feature, nothing at all, she is just pretty and thats all. She is very nicelly detailed (even have her white underwear sculpted and painted under the skirt) and her attitud is much better than the boys, but still i find her kinda boring.

She is not specially rare either soo i take my sweet time to get her back in the day.

ZENNON

Behold under the presence of the king of all demons!! The one who exist on an icy lake at the center of hell, the lower circle of the condemned!! The one who is many and containg hell itself inside him, the great Lord Zennon!!

The third figure in the Devilman - More than Demon series by Fewture not only was one of the most difficult to find for me, but is also my favorite of the entire series one and two, one of my favorites of my Devilman collection and pretty much one of my favorites of all the toys i own, an amazing feat both technically and artistic, Yasushi Nirasawa´s version of the Demon King Zennon.

Zennon is MASIVE. He came on a blister yet he is one of the biggest toys i ever have, as tall as a Hot Toys figure but with a huge wing span that makes him bigger looking, but still, thanks to a beautyfull and clever design on his hoves, he can stand perfectly and keep his balance with his amazing wings. Something most toys are missing.

Still, he comes with a HUGE base as well, something more decorative than needed, with the same coin design Akira and Ryo have but at a much bigger scale and with a more intrincate sculpt featuring skeletons and snakes around his name written in demonic symbols.

I dont even know where to start here…. while Akira and Ryo were both very simplstic looking, this pretty much goes the opposite. Zennon is covered in incrediblly intrincate details both sculpted and painted. Pretty much each inch of him have something too look, something new to notice and make him both terrifiying and beautyfull.

The main head keep his original design, with a pretty cool blue skin tone and articulated jaw as well as a mane that looks like fire with two big horns coming from it, the other heads on his shoulders have a torso on theyr own and are coming from his back, the male is now a skeleton and the blonde head is now a blue skined female with a red mohawk and a piercing on her nipple. I am very happy that Toy R´Us didnt censore this and both characters have articulated heads.

The head on his torso is now a red skeleton with articulated jaw and metalic piercongs on his long ears, and also is house of Zennon action feature: one look at the inside of his mouth and hollow eye sockest and you can see a gimpse of hell, a sea of corpses glowinf in the depths of the darkness.

This action feature is AMAZING looking and i was even capable to capture it on a photo!!! I am very happy!!!

His blue muscles rurrounded by hair, his bulgue, the piercing on his legs, the BIG and HEAVY hoves, his gigantic wings and insectoid like hands…. theres lot of elements in here that i love and amaze to many different levels.

This guy is not just a super handsome and sexy looking item with a cool action feature, but his palaybility is amazing as well: articulated jaws and 3 head articulations, articulations on his wrist, legs, shoulders, wrists and knees, this was the most articulated action figure from Fewture to date and have A LOT of poseability options.

Clean this guy is really hellish, but i am even tempted to buy him a second time just to keep him on his blister as the only Zennon figure ever produced for now. this guy have the potential too looks terrific on any kind of collection of the macabre and horror figures and it makes an imposing and menacing display anywhere.

SATAN

After the HUGE shock that was the trhid figure on the second series of Devilman - More Than Demon, Fewture Models continue to did an impresive job by releasing again an extremelly important character that never before saw an action figure release, the main antagonist of the story, Satan.

Yasushi Nirasawa really took a lot of libertyes with Satan (and Ryo as well) and remove all of his warm and traditional beautyfull features to gives him a much more demonic and dark nature: Satan have pretty menacing claws as well as bat like wings in bewteen his angelic wings and have the silhouette of a star.

This is an angel made with a cold and icy light and for that, Fewture decided to cast the character in transcluscent plastic. This gives to the figure a pretty goodly look since the light goes trought his body and wings in a very spectacular way. This along the fact the figure have blue sparkles in the plastic gives him a pretty unique and luminous look.

The body with transparency also contains the acion feature of Satan: he have glow in the dark insides. You can see his ribs and organs shine in the dark but you can also glipse at them under normal light, something pretty odd considering this is a being made of energy and light, there is flesh on this character…

Sadlly, Satan´s head is made in hard normal plastic, soo the levels of detail and texture is pretty different on his head compared to his body and how the transluscent plastic degrades with the ages and take a yellow tone. This is much more evident on photos tough, since in person the difference is not that abismal.

Now the censorship. This figure is not censored and have a pair of female breats as well as a hairy bulgue. It looks totally female until you touch his sexual parts and notice theres a penis sculpted under the vaginal lips… i guess this was a clever way to keep Satan hermaphroditic nature as well as avoiding censorship.

Satan is as aticulated as Zennon, with nech and wings articulations, shoulders, biceps, elbows, wrists, legs, knee and ankle articulations soo he have a lot of pose options that looks elegant on him, tough his anle articulations are very weeak and his wings too heavy and is almost imposible to make him stand.

To help him a little to keep balance, Satan comes with the same style base of Zennon with his name on it but in a smaller scale (bit bigger than Akira and Ryo bases). And to be honest, this base dosnt help a whole lot…is hard to keep Satan on balance doe to his big wings and that makes me like Zennon much more (if thats posible).

This is one of the best Nirasawa design, a figure that tells a lot with its silhouette and texture. It have some issues like the yellowing of his body and the lack of balance, but it manages to be pretty different to Siren while keeping its divine nature, it manages to be pretty goodlike while still looks cold and evil  and that makes it a pretty beautyfull figure of a rare character never before seen in plastic form.

RYO ASUKA

Back at the very begining of this century, Fewture Models released the second series of Devilman action figures designed by Yasushi Nirasawa. One of the reasons why this series is soo amazing is because it saw the release of characters no other company wanted to produce on action figure. Series one had the first Amon figure and pretty rare characters like Jinmen and Ghelmer.

The second figure of the series two fall into this cathegory of rare characters since is no other than Ryo Asuka, one of the most important characters of the entire story and the one who - for some reason i dont understand - never had an action figure release (not even statues).

Yasushi Niwasawa´s version of Ryu Asuka is pure heavy metal. The inocent and elegant handsome young man was replaced by a much more evil, intimidating and dark figure. I am not sure if i like this change too much since he actually looks much more demonic than Akira, using the same leather pants but sporting a pale and ghostly physical appearance…

Ryo fits perfectly with Akira, maybe too much for his own good actually. There is no re-use in here, his pants are a totally unique sculpt and his torso is not as muscly and healthy as Akira´s, but is pretty skiny and sick looking. His flesh is cast in white plastic soo it gives him an almost shiny looks, like a marble statue of an entity made of light.

The only elements that broke this monochromatic look are his (very carefully painted) pink niples and blue metalic tattos. His long clawed fingers are also a pretty strong hint that theres something wrong with this man and he is not human at all. His golden eyes with purple make up and black lipstick gives him an extremelly androgynous looks as well.

He dosnt have pretty sophisticated articulations tough, only the head, shoulders and wrists, wich gives him the same pose options Akira have and he can stand on his own, tough he comes with his coin like base with his name written on it, just like the rest of the figures of series two.

His accesory is the same demon skull mask Akira have, tough this tame is not cast in transluscent icy plastic, but instead in glow in the dark yellow. The mask fits perfectly on him and looks good in the dark (i manage to take a photo!!) and i asume this is the mask once is activated and is showing his visions to its bearer (just a theory of mine).

Aside of this “action feature” of glow in the dark, he also have the same feature as Akira: an extra head in the middle of his transformation in Satan. The head is the same as the original one except for the angelic wings on his hair. Looks good and fits him better than Akira´s transforming head.

I am still not sure i like this design on Ryo and how similar he looks to Akira, and while the figure itself have top notch quality, just like Akira, he is not very impresive looking or easy to recognize. Hes not very rare as well since i saw him on stores a lot over the years soo it was one of the last figures i added to the collection.

AKIRA FUDO

Series one of the Fewture Model Devilman action figures series was finished and build up a cool collection of monsters with pretty similar features and sizes and some of the most important characters of the manga. Series two tough wanted something different: a series of minor characters with a lot of differences in body types and species as well as the addition of “action features” (pretty normal back then) and a big upgrade in both sculpture and articulations.

The opening piece for this so called DEVILMAN - MORE THAN DEMON series was the protagonist on his human form, Akira Fudo. Is actually weird Akira wasnt added to series one tough since he is one of the most important characters.

Yasushi Nirasawa´s design over Akira rejected all 70s flaor and style and gives him a pretty modern japanese punk style: big boots, tigth leather pants, chains, tattos and shirtles, this Akira looks way too much like a japanese punk boy from the late 90s.

For me is hard to identify Akira with this style, tough i guess it makes sence for the 2000s and he keep some of his trademark design details, like the scars on his pecs or the fangs. I am not sure i like the glam black lipstick tough, but the fangs, piercing eyes and black hair makes him looks a lot like a werewolf boy.

This time around, his torso is cast on a skin tone plastic with a pretty soft transparency. This gives to his skin a pretty realistic and clean look and along with his chains made with real metal, gives him a pretty luxury and high quality look back then.

The muscles are nicelly sculpted and i have to admit, while i dont like men this skinny, he is pretty sexy looking with the softly painted nipples, chains and tattos, and his open pants makes him very erotic looking.

He is articulated on the head, shoulders and wrists, soo theres not a lot of options to play with poses in here. He is very static, tough he can stand on his own perfectly but comes with a pretty cool looking base. This series two base have the shape of a coin, with a very nice and gothic design and Akia´s name written in demonic language.

Given hos small he is (half the size of the other characters), he comes with accesorys, aside of his base he also have the demon skull mask cast in transluscent plastic. The mask thingy fist perfectly on his head and dosnt straigh too far from Go Nagai´s design.

His other accesory is part of his “action feature”: an extra head. Now day figures comes with lots of heads, extra faces and hands. Back then, a figure with an extra head was something pretty rare and a novelty.

This head´s only difference is on his hair, taking the shape of wings. We could say this is Akira just about to turn into Devilman and gives him an extra pitn by displaying him along side his full transformed Devilman form (looks good with both normal and Winged versions).

Overall, this Akira is very good if a little too hard to link to Go Nagai´s character thanks to his modern design, but to be honest i find him one of the most boring figures of the collection. I am actually glad he was the first in series two since i saw A LOT of this guy in stores over the years and i even took my sweet time to get him.
