HUNTER & CHIMERA

Back in 1997 aside of the horrible Street Figther toys from G.I. Joe there wasnt anything about videogames. Not even Mario Bros had figures back then but all of a suddent that changed in moments with Epoch, Hasbro, ReSaurus and other companis releasing Tekken figures, Tombr Raider, Street Figther, etc...and the very first wave of that invasion was ToyBiz Resident Evil serries part of theyr "Videogame Super Stars".

Released in double packs, this figures were specially grotesque and detailed, more than your average kid toy from back then and almost reached McFarlane level of perfection. After releasing Chris Redfield and the Cerberus dog, Jill Valentine and the Web Spinner and the Maggot Zombie and Forest Speyer, the next pack was Hunter and Chimera, another pack made up by monsters.

Hunter is the same size the rest of the human and humanoid creatures while the Chimera is deffinetly smaller even with his weird legs. Both can stand perfectly on theyr own (this is a susprise for the Chimera twisted legs) and the Hunter is articulated on the shoulders, elbows, wrists, waist, legs and knes. All articulations are cut joints except the shoulders that are ball joint, soo he have the same range of poseability than Chris and Jill.

The Chimera only have cut articulations on the arms soo he is mostly and statue like the Cerberus, Web Spinner and Forest Speyer.

This are based on the Capcom´s artowkr from 1996 soo instead of scales, the Hunter´s body is made out of wath it looks like.....muscle tissue with no skin? Theres a lot of veins as well and the sculpt of this details is really good but is wirds to see this first design of the monster while in the rest of the games he is deffinetly reptilian.

He is pure muscle and his small face have a big mouth and small eyes with a pinty nose. He looks more like a demon or a gargoyle than a reptile to me but this was Capcom´s originald esign for sure!! Best part for me are the claws, pretty nicelly sculpted and one of them even have flesh and an eye ball hanging from it!!!

He is solid green with a camouflage patthern of browns and blacks around his body, again pretty accurate to the original Playstation 1 design and the paint on his small teeth and eyes is perfect. You can even see his red tongue and snake like pupils!!

Chimera is again, pretty accurate to the original artowkr and he is pitch black!! Is really difficult tos ee the details here since he is just black with some sections of his legs on purple and the claws and eyes in dirty yellow (this sections are the best one). The sculpt is really good....his face and legs looks like a fly but he have a spider on his back for some reason. His long arm with spikes is really menacing and makes me wonder why Capcom didnt use this creature never gain after the first game.

Here is the thing, while we got lots of Hunters figures after this one, this is the only Chimera figure we ever get in 27 years making this pack really really special. Tough theres no accesorys at all.

The action feature of the Hunter consist on a spring action on his waist, turns it to a side and the waist go back to place with his arm extended, like he is attacking with his claw. This dosnt work too well....the arm articulations are lose and the force of the spring isnt too much soo he barelly moves.

The Chimera action feature is push the button on his chest and his head is shot. The ehad is tied with a black cord to his body soo it dosnt get lost but again, the spring action isnt that strong and to me it makes no sence he lsoe his ehad like this....aparently this happens when Chris or Jill shot at his chest using one of theyr giant weapons, but it would be better if his limbs exploded as well.

ut of all this figues this guys had the worst action feature, but visualyy they were striking. The original design of the Hunter is really interesting and the Chimera is such an iconic character from the first game is weird theres no other figures of him. This was one really cool pack of toys.
