ZANNIN

Yasushi Nirasawa specially design action figures for Devilman used to be quiet a vision back in 20 years ago. They were quiet impresive looking in both an artistic and engeniere way. Compared to McFarlane Toys from back then, this ones wins on every way.

One of the very first figures i got from this line was Zannin, a poor creature that was totally erased on Devilman Crybaby but it has been on the main spotlight on every other Devilman version (Moa Dante included).

Zannin is an odd figure, because he is pretty big looking yet his torsi and arms are pretty thin, almost like a spider, soo he dosnt comes on a big luxury box like Jinmen but on a blister like standar figures.

His body proportions are quiet impresive and anoying. If he could stand talll he would be the tallest demon on the series, yet his crounching stance make him smaller and yet very space consuming given his pointy arms.

Nirasawa design of Zannin removes all his hairynes and gives him a completelly strange torso fused with insectic legs and a tail. I must correct, the tail looks like a rat tail, but his arms and legs looks more like crab apendages tough his feet are furry. Zannin looks a lot like a weird chimera.

Tough the most unique aspect of his design is present here: the big eyes on his chest and bulgui and sharp AND somehow, he also have eyes on his back with two “horns” coming out of the pupils. As a grostesque vision he dosnt dissapoint.

His face is nicelly detailed and looks like the head of a werewolf with insect athena. I dare to say he is more “cute” looking than scary tough, much more on the Furry side.

Sadlly, i was never able to get his original version… i never saw him on any store, soo this is a secondary version with a different color scheme. The green of his body is now purple and his chest eyes are red and dosnt stand out too much compared to the original color version. To be honest, both the original and this versions have colors that dosnt match at all for a creature like this.

He can move his neck, shulders, elbows, wrists and legs and given how looong are his amrs and legs, that gives him a lot of dynamic poses. He is probablly the most fun to play with from the series one and his rat tail gives him an spectacular look.

Sadly, he cant stand on his own given the bizarre chape of his legs and the weight of his torso, but he dosnt have a base!!! This guy has fallen from my shelfes a lot of times over the years until i give him a Play Arts Kai base, something that remove some points of my affection meter for him.

This is a weird looking beast, while the details on his design are good, the overall result dosnt stand out as much as Jinmen or other characters. Then again, theres not a whole lot of Zannin action figures out there soo that makes him an important part of the collection.
