DEVILMAN KUBRIK

While the Michael Lau Devilman is deffinetly cute i think nothing can compare to the cutenes of the Kubrik by Medicom. Medicom Toy is one of the oldest and more classic toy brands from Japan (and one of the most overpriced) and are one of the first to work with Devilman too. They made 12" doll figures of the characters that are extremelly difficult to find by now but they also make Kubriks.

The Kubriks are small figures based on the style of lego and they did Kubriks of A LOT of brands, like the Blair Witch, Evangelion, Disney, Star Wars....they used to be like the modern POP by Funko. And i can say with all safety that this set of Kurbik are the oldest Devilman items i own, since the box says "1980".

The window plastic is already yellow, but i manage to keep the box and the figures in really good state after ...40 YEARS!!!!! OMFG!!!!

The first set of Kubrik about Devilman is called "Devilman The Original" and is based on the OVAs. The box have Akira Fudo, Ryu Asuka and Devilman. This guys are really small and they can stand on theyr own perfectly, tough they comes with a 3 panel base that conects with each other and a cardboard scenario with a weird yellow, purple and red camo design. All for display of course.

The paint is minimum - only the face and chest in Devilman and Ryo example - and the sculpt is also minimum and only consist on the hair, wings and claws of Devilman. Yet the paint job is really clean and perfect and matches perfectly the faces of the OVAs.

Ryo Asuka comes with a coat of paper??? I dont know waths the material of his coat but looks like paper with fabric texture and he also have his tiny shotgun. Akira is 90% blackness and is the most simplistic looking tough he have a second face on the back of his head. Turn around the head and the hair and you got an Akira with a very cute and surprised face.

Devilman is of course the best of them, with his big wings and menacing face tough he is the same size as the other two. All figures are articulated on the neck, shoulders, wrists and legs and they are a lot of dun to play with, even wth the limited articulation and body structure, since you can literally dismeber them and mix theyr parts.

I remember this were among the Devilman toys i wanted the most years ago and they are much more cute and fun than the modern Pop Funko but sadly, its been a long time since i saw a Krubrik....

DEVILMAN, SIREN & DEVILMAN LADY TORUTORU ITEM

Now this are actually my very first Devilman figures i ever had. When i meet Devilman for the first time on the Playstation videogame i didnt had the confidence to buy those huge and expensive Fewture Models figures, but i sure get in no time this tiny little figures from the line Toru Toru Item, by Banpresto.

This figures where not very spectacular actually, but they are the seed of my collection.

They are very small, like the Microman, but unlike them they can stand on theyr own and theyr articulations are extremelly limited: only the neck, shoulders and legs (and wings on Siren and Devilman) soo the posability is almost no existent, just like the 90s toys.

The details are OK i guess, given theyr small size (again), Devilman have brigth yellow eyes and red and withe mouth with fangs and Siren looks a lot like the character design of the OVAs, and the sculpt is also descent with Devilman having big and sexy muscles with veins and the girls having the misil boobs Go Nagai love soo much.

I have to say i think i was 14 or 15 years old back then? I dont remember, but i do remember how unconfortable was to have this little toys of nude women....

They didnt have any accesory except for Devilman Lady that comes with a chibi version of Asuka Ran, an extremelly weird detail i must say and there was a 4th figure on the collection; Devilman anime version, but i didnt get him because i tough he looked silly.

Also, many years ago, before i moved out from my old house, Devilman fall from my desk and lose one of his wings and it didnt matter how much i searched (i even moved), i never found his wing again. Its a weird experience and is anoying to have him incomplete (specially since i think they are very tircky to get by now) but i cant say much about this figures aside of that.

DEVILMAN & SIREN MICROMAN

The Microman series of figures from Takara has been one of the most classic toys from Japan, i think they been around since the 70s, long before Takara started theyr maine series of Transformers soo this series has een a lot of popular characters from the sentai era (like Ultraman or the Kaijus) and super heros from DC and such, and of course, Devilman appeare in this series and it fits on it pretty well.

I think there is two different version of the figures: the anime version with blue and red Devilman and the manga version, that comes with two characters; Devilman and Siren. Of course i get the later and it wasnt expensive back then when i get it (the beggining of the 2000s) tough by now i ma not sure if this figures are rare or not.

This figures are micro size, really small, smaller than a Nendroid soo its very tricky to take pictures of them soo excuse the strange quality of the images. Devilman and Siren are the same size tough despite theyr small size, they cant stand on theyr own thanks to theyr articulations and heavy wings.

Aside of the tiny scale, the second draw point for this figures is the articulations. They are extremelly articulated and can achive almost any pose you can think and they interact nicelly. Is fun to put this two fighting each other.

The details tough are OK i guess. The paint is minimum (mustly only on the heads) but they are good for theyr small size, i mean each one have fangs and the eyes perfectly painted, lack the realism of bigger figures but at this size they looks really good. Tough wath i find anoying is the really intrusive articulations, they are extremelly evident and there is not way to hide them with this size and nude level.

Also, while is nice they have articulation on the wings, i feel like the articulations could be broke in any minute, thanks to the plastic used and theyr small size.

Theyr accesoryes are a pair or circular bases with the awesome Microman logo on it. This bases helps them a lot to stand but i wish they also added bases with an arm soo they can be posed floying around. Theyr other accesoryes are an awfull LOT of little hands.

This hands helps a lot for the posses, but they are made with softish and squishy plastic, soo theyr colors is different to thatof the bidy and also, thanks to the material, is extremelly difficult to change them. The little sift peg can be broke and get stuck on theyr wrists soo i decided to just leave the hands alone and dont use it.

This issue extend to the entire figures actually, thanks to theyr small size and flimsy plastic, i feel they are going to broke in any minute, add theyr lack of balance and you have the most frustrating Devilman figures i ever had.

Is really difficult to pose them and they dont looks fantastic thanks to the articulations, soo they are not very fun to watch but not too fun to play with either. Is weird how cool this little pair is but how they are not very functional at all.

DEVILMAN LADY VIOLENCE

Back in 2000, when Devilman was extremelly popular, Kaiyodo released many figures of the character that i am not entirelly aware of, tough the only ones i got was theyr cute named "Violence Action Figure" series that only consisted on two characters: Devilman and Devilman Lady.

While Devilman was pretty close to the original design tough he had a weird color, Devilman Lady is totally different to Go Nagai´s original design. Her face is extremelly feral looking, almost like a werewolf tough she is using beauty make up. Also her wings are huge and shaped differently (both in her head and back side).

She is on the same scale as Devilman but inlike him, she cant stand on her own at all soo they decided to give her an accesory: a base. This base dosnt work too much actually since she likes to fall back even with it, but insted of using a totally generic base they decided to sculpt it like a monster. The monster - or demon, looks like a green manhog with his arm extended to the front while Devilman Lady stand on his shoulder.

The arm of the creature can be removed and show a bone and a blody hole on its place while Lady hold the ripped away arm on her hand proudlly. This base is really good looking for the display tough, like i said, is totally usless.

And just like Devilman, Lady have an extremelly odd color choice that makes her look totally different to the original design. She is cast in transluscent plastic with her body bainted on a nacar white?? Or metalic white? I am not sure how to describe it, but this color make her looks like some kind of statue in a museum or a goodes with the skin of a pearl.

Her fur is purple and her wings have a mix of both colors. I find this purple to give her a very strong femenine wuality and with the plastic texture, the purple kinda shines given her a pretty strange look.

She is articulated on the neck shoulders, elbows, wrists, legs, ankles and knees and while this articulations work good and are very simple, theres not many options to pose her thanks to the sculpt. She is deffinetly much more limited than Devilman and the fact her wings are not removable makes it worst.

I am not sure wath to think about this figure tough, at first i really hated her because how different she looks, but rigth now i can see she have some beautifull quality i didns see before, tough the lack of balance and limited poseability really blows.

DEVILMAN VIOLENCE

When i started to collect and know more about the Devilman characters, i was able to get some of the rarest figures of the character since back in 2000, there was a lot of new Devilman products coming out (and that stoped with the horrible movie) and one of those rare figures was the Kaiyodo Devilman figure with the colorfull title of "Violence Action Figure".

This guy can stand on his own despite the small feet and have the same scale as the Marmit figures tough the material is different. It dosnt have the soft texture of the vynil but instead the plastic is more...hard and raw?? That sounds raunchy, but i find this plastic to be much more low quality. The figure is bulky and yet is hollow.

He is, well, i guess well sculpted. His face is really fatefull to his original design and he is extra bara (probablly the baraest version of the character) with a very generous musculature and even a furry penis betwene his legs. He is actually extremelly good detailed  tough he have a few strange details, like the lak of hair on his knees and the abudant hair on his wings.

The color is...odd and i think this is why i find this figure a little difficult to put on my all time favorites. He is green with some different washes and most of the color detail is on his head: purple forehead, yellow eyes, red and white fangs on his mouth and black claws, pretty much the rest is just green.

This is not the only green Devilman out there, the color choice is common, but i find his coloring a little bit lazy. Or maybe is the combination of the color and the cheap plastic wath bugs me, i dunno.

He is articulated on the head, shoulders, elbows, wrists, abs, legs, knees and ankles and his wings are removable since sometime sis tricky to find the balance for them its easyer make hims stand wingless. The articulations are extremelly simple and the standar from back the 2000´s but they help him to achive some basic poses.

Overall i think he is not  abad looking Devilman figure. He is extremelly sexy looking and have some neat details (like the bone structure on his wings) but the material he is made of dosnt suits him, but then again, i find most of Kaiyodo figures to be dissapointing.

DEVILMAN MICHAEL LAU

Now this is a pretty odd and interesting pice. Many years ago (i dont remember the exact date...2005-2010?) and in the most inexpected place, i saw this guy and hiw winged head seemed oddly familiar. I buy him very cheap and started to investigate where this Devilman came from.

It turns out this figure was made by Michael Lau, a popular Hong Kong artists specialized in urban design. It seems his art is mostly used on skateboards and vynil figures, soo this kind of remidns me the Funko Pop of modern times.

This Devilman is one head taller than a Funko Pop and is pretty light thanks to the vynil material and it also have a very pleasan velvet texture. Is bascially a version of Devilman made with square shapes and such, soo even his hairy legs looks more like rock. The paint is minimum to help achive the cartoonish 2D effect and overall, he is very pleasent to look at, i love his square muscles but most of all i love that huge smile full of fangs he have.

He is articulated on the wings, neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists and fingers tough given the nature of his body, he dosnt have too much flexibilty. Also his tail is bendable and made with a pretty soft material.

I also love hig big black feet....i think this is one of the coolest and cutest figures of Devilman to date, i guess this is wath most people see (and i fail to see) on the Funko Pop. And he is also very rare and expensive now it seems since he was released in 2003.

DEVILMAN MOVIE RELIZATION

In 2004 we saw the birth of the very anticipated Devilman live action movie, with pretty hideous and ridiculous results to the point that it even put the franchise into a dormant state for some years. Literally, the only good thign that came out from that horrible movie was the figures. Bandai released a collection of 3 figures with interlocked bases representing Devilman, Siren and Satan on theyr movie design. I dont know them (yes i am surprised too), but instead i get the Movie Realization Devilman.

This figure was kind of a "deluxe" item since it was pretty expensive for back then standars and he comes in a pretty niffty and spectacular box with windows designed like the stain glass of a church. The box itself is a work of art!

This Devilman is taller than your standar action figure (NECA and McFarlane) and is based in the initial designs of Katsuya Terada for the movie. The final version of Devilman for the movie is kind of different in size and details, soo this was much more like the blueprint for the movie.

The figure is actually pretty nicelly done, with a very intrincate sculpt and a paint that use different shades of blues to highligh Devilman´s musculature and even the black parts of the character (the legs) have many shades of black, grey, green and even red to give it a pretty rich tone under any kind of light.

This Devilman is very different o the original one, with spiky feathers insted of fur on his legs and black spikes on his shoulders and symetric design ons his head and chest, the wings on his head are even smaller and give him a trully fearsome and realistic look. He looks more like the Xenomorph of H.R.Giger, with the repitilian lean silhouette, than the muscled super heroe version Go Nagai created.

The transluscent orange wings on his head, golden eyes and the teeth piking out from his cheecks are really something to behold and very high standar for Bandai back in 2004.

He comes with a pair of open extra hands (the details are soo stuning that even his fingernails have blood splattered on them), and extra head with the motuh open and a pair of wings. The open mouth head is TERRIFIC since it open from his ears and looks really beastly and demonic. Each fangs is perfectly painted and stands out against the vibrant red of his inside.

To pace the wings on his shoulders, one needs to remove this small pieces on the shoulders that reveales small holes where the wings can be attached. The wings are HUGE and with a vibrant orange transparency and lots of details, like red veins around. The wings give him an imposing and amazing looks and looks great with light behind, almost like stained glass.

This guy is fully articulated: neck, shouldes, elbows, wrists, legs, knees, ankles and have a fully bendable tail. The articulations arent very good tough since they are cut joints that only move on onde direction or, in the case of the shoulders, have a big visible gap between the arms and the torso. The most movable part is the long tail, but the rest of the articulations are really styff. I guess that was something normal back in 2004.

He cant stand on his own sadly, soo he comes with a round black base with the logo of the movie and a metalic claw to hold him from the waist. Just like the figure, the base is pretty styff and while it does the job or hilding him, it lack the flexibility modern bases have.

Overall, he is kind of static and stiff and is difficult to play with him, but he looks terrific and have both an amazing design and an sculpt and paint to match it. Pretty impresive from Bandai and pretty impresive for such a low quality movie.
