DEVILMAN SKULL

Once upon a time, there was an era when toys were at reach of everyone. They price wasnt as obscene as it is now and they have less “0″ in theyr prices. Toy companys released entire lines of many characters and they also used to release multiple pain variations of each figure. It was pretty popular to collect this color variations or transluscent versions as well.

Now day, toys are soo expensive that the idea of get multiple variations of one single figure is really out of reality, soo i was shocked when i saw a paint variant of the Sentinel Devilman. Since both were half the original price, of course i could not resist and got both of them. It was soo nice and nostalgic since its been many years since i got something Devilman related…

This Sentinel figure is tittled “re: CREATURES 2 - DEVILMAN Skull” and again is based on Katsuya Terada´s version.

The size and articulations and materials are pretty much the same of the Amon figure. His range of movement is great but it also share his same weak points: hes really fragile and one of his leg have an structure failure design and can be broken easy if pushed in a certain angle. Its a shame this figures have such issues but i guess is not easy to produce this level of detail at this scale.

The paint is totally different here. His scaly legs have beautifull purple/blue tones on top of the black and his skins is white. Or not entirelly white but grey with some dirty details here and there, his body dosnt looks made with muscle but made with hard bone. Its a pretty cool effect.

His open wings are also spectacular with purple tones and a spiral patern on top, he looks very surreal and dream like.

His face tough, is totally different to the other figure. It has no skin or flesh at all, is pure bone, a skull. The paint is clean and the sculpt is sharp and really well defined. He has no eyes but instead blood driping from his eye sockets. The paint of the blood is really shiny, soo at certain distance it looks like he have wet shiny red eyes but in fact, theres nothing at all inside those sockets.

He has no open mouth head or fire on is mouth, instead he comes with a really awesome and cool looking fireball. A green fireball of translucent plastic that fits around his open hand and goes up and curls around his entire arm. This accesory was beautifully done and really help to make him look totally different to the Amon version.

The rest of the accesoryes are the same: the open hands, the closed wings, the base and the turtle. Jinmen have a different color pallete as well, with dark greens and bloody red strips over his scales, his eyes have a really interesting “shine” effect and his tongue is purple now. The faces on his back dosnt change too much tough.

I usually dont get repaint variations. I got some but only when they boast a certain different on the sculpt - like the Fewture Siren and Devilman Lady that have resculpted boobs - and this guy deffinetly manages to looks totally different to his original version, even tough the real difference are not that big.

He looks really haunting and creppy, really ghoslty while the other figure looks much more violent and crazy. I like a lot how they did manage to build such effects only with the painting.

Now i am only missing the Megahuse Devilman from Yasushi Nirasawa. He is pretty expensive for his size tough but i hope catch him in a good deal like this two. It feels good to be in touch with Devilman again after soo many years.
