DEVILMAN MOVIE RELIZATION

In 2004 we saw the birth of the very anticipated Devilman live action movie, with pretty hideous and ridiculous results to the point that it even put the franchise into a dormant state for some years. Literally, the only good thign that came out from that horrible movie was the figures. Bandai released a collection of 3 figures with interlocked bases representing Devilman, Siren and Satan on theyr movie design. I dont know them (yes i am surprised too), but instead i get the Movie Realization Devilman.

This figure was kind of a "deluxe" item since it was pretty expensive for back then standars and he comes in a pretty niffty and spectacular box with windows designed like the stain glass of a church. The box itself is a work of art!

This Devilman is taller than your standar action figure (NECA and McFarlane) and is based in the initial designs of Katsuya Terada for the movie. The final version of Devilman for the movie is kind of different in size and details, soo this was much more like the blueprint for the movie.

The figure is actually pretty nicelly done, with a very intrincate sculpt and a paint that use different shades of blues to highligh Devilman´s musculature and even the black parts of the character (the legs) have many shades of black, grey, green and even red to give it a pretty rich tone under any kind of light.

This Devilman is very different o the original one, with spiky feathers insted of fur on his legs and black spikes on his shoulders and symetric design ons his head and chest, the wings on his head are even smaller and give him a trully fearsome and realistic look. He looks more like the Xenomorph of H.R.Giger, with the repitilian lean silhouette, than the muscled super heroe version Go Nagai created.

The transluscent orange wings on his head, golden eyes and the teeth piking out from his cheecks are really something to behold and very high standar for Bandai back in 2004.

He comes with a pair of open extra hands (the details are soo stuning that even his fingernails have blood splattered on them), and extra head with the motuh open and a pair of wings. The open mouth head is TERRIFIC since it open from his ears and looks really beastly and demonic. Each fangs is perfectly painted and stands out against the vibrant red of his inside.

To pace the wings on his shoulders, one needs to remove this small pieces on the shoulders that reveales small holes where the wings can be attached. The wings are HUGE and with a vibrant orange transparency and lots of details, like red veins around. The wings give him an imposing and amazing looks and looks great with light behind, almost like stained glass.

This guy is fully articulated: neck, shouldes, elbows, wrists, legs, knees, ankles and have a fully bendable tail. The articulations arent very good tough since they are cut joints that only move on onde direction or, in the case of the shoulders, have a big visible gap between the arms and the torso. The most movable part is the long tail, but the rest of the articulations are really styff. I guess that was something normal back in 2004.

He cant stand on his own sadly, soo he comes with a round black base with the logo of the movie and a metalic claw to hold him from the waist. Just like the figure, the base is pretty styff and while it does the job or hilding him, it lack the flexibility modern bases have.

Overall, he is kind of static and stiff and is difficult to play with him, but he looks terrific and have both an amazing design and an sculpt and paint to match it. Pretty impresive from Bandai and pretty impresive for such a low quality movie.
