The series 1 of The Nightmare Before Christmas action figure from NECA was a brillant start from a young and very romisong company that now day is still one of the best that keeps doing amazing figures from amazing movie licences. Series 1 had Jack, Sally and the Mayor but also a minor citizen from Halloween Town: the Vampire.
This is actually one vampire from a set of four vampire brothers, but sadly NECA didnt release the other three. This is also the middle sibling i think and the second tallest tough in fact he is very kinda small. He is a couple of head taller than the Mayor but smaller than Sally and Jack and this is probablly due to his hunched pose. One of the things i like the mst about this series is how it manages me to measure this character size on 3D.
He have a fantastic sculpt, with an eerie Nosferatu like face, huge brigth eyes and rat fangs. His body is just black but is not simplistic or empty, since it have a pretty amazing texture that makes him looks like a clay figure. Is pretty evident this is a figure designed for stop motion.
His head is articulated as well as his wrist and shoulders and his entire arms are made with bendy plastic and a wire frame soo they can be posed in a totally seamless way. This was a great choice to deal with his cape i guess and looks really good. His body is hollow like a bell, but inside he have a transluscent cone that keeps him a little above ground but not enough to let you see the cone, this way you can push him and looks like he is hovering over the ground in a ghostly way.
Its amazing hiw NECA manage to come up with all this on theyr very first series. He dosnt have as many accesoryes as his friends but wath he have is worth it. First of his umbrella in crimson red made with clay like texture to fit him. The soft umbrella can be removed soo the cane can be put on the hole on his arm and and theres the magic, he can hold it perfectly even with his small hands. Tough the arms are too weak to hold the heavt umbrella, soo the item must rest on his shoulder giving him apretty elegant looks.
Lastly the best part, the vampire teddy bear. This little guy have an articulated head and a soft plastic tail and is painted perfectly, with a cone base like the Vampire use but much more smaller, he can hover around ground and looks fantastic displayed together or with any other figure of the series.
It was evident NECA had plans to not focus on main characters, but to also spotlight minor characters from the movie and thats exactly wath made this figure series soo amazing and perfect.
